The trailer looks like that formula is flipped: drawn out horror with spikes of mystery. Perhaps the trailer just wasn’t edited well.
In a book about vampires, it takes almost half the book before anybody says the word. The majority of the book is describing how terrible the town is, and I love it.

This reminds me of this western themed vampire TV show I was watching. We were a few episodes in and there wasn’t a hint of vampires, just lots of character building and a plot line that seemed more about politics and the locomotive industry. I was really quite impressed and I remember thinking how it reminded me of Dark Shadows.
As it turns out, I had misremembered the trailer and there were in fact no vampires or supernatural elements at all.
I liked the book, and the trailer felt like it was a different story entirely. Perhaps the town name and some character names are borrowed, but it seems more 'inspired by' than based on.

This is awesome and makes me feel old at the same time. First thing I thought of was Eminem.
