The book is so good. The trailer does not look compelling to me at all. Part of the appeal of the book is the slowly unfolding mystery, in a sleepy but somewhat normal town, with spikes of horror. The trailer looks like that formula is flipped: drawn out horror with spikes of mystery. Perhaps the trailer just wasn’t edited well.

In a book about vampires, it takes almost half the book before anybody says the word. The majority of the book is describing how terrible the town is, and I love it.

This reminds me of this western themed vampire TV show I was watching. We were a few episodes in and there wasn’t a hint of vampires, just lots of character building and a plot line that seemed more about politics and the locomotive industry. I was really quite impressed and I remember thinking how it reminded me of Dark Shadows.

As it turns out, I had misremembered the trailer and there were in fact no vampires or supernatural elements at all.

I liked the book, and the trailer felt like it was a different story entirely. Perhaps the town name and some character names are borrowed, but it seems more 'inspired by' than based on.

I thought the majority of what I saw in the trailers seemed to be almost directly from the book. There are a few scenes where it seems like liberties were taken, but it looks like a pretty faithful recreation of the story. What did you see that seemed so out of place?

This is awesome and makes me feel old at the same time. First thing I thought of was Eminem.

Love Stephen King, but never understood the love for this book. Still going to watch it. Hoping the filmmakers have an interpretation I like better than the original.
