Well the second one took off theatrically due to its guerilla marketing campaign. Reports of people leaving screenings, passing out, vomiting, due to the graphic nature of the film. That caused horror fans to take interest in the series (although the first Terrifier already had a small following).
Horror fans turn out for movies in theaters. They’re some of the most loyal customers. And this is a new franchise that people are championing for the practical effects and grindhouse aspect.
If you don’t like gore porn it’s very much not for you.
Classic slasher vibes with a new IP. Not that many slasher films are really that different, but if you're a fan of the genre it's something slightly different.

I have only seen the first one - the second one is on my watchlist. It's a gruesome slasher movie that is simultaneously brutal but also silly. If you like gory slashers, you'll like this; if you don't, you won't. Part of the "charm" for lack of a better word is the "main character" Art the Clown, who is a classic silent clown that just happens to be a sadistic freak murderer.
I think there are two types of people; for one group, you say "sadistic freak clown murderer gory gruesome slasherfest" and they say, "I MUST SEE THIS MOVIE". Everyone else doesn't get it.
I like extreme art. Maybe I'm just a bit fucked in the head, but I like being shocked, and the boundaries of my senses pushed. The first one is a reimagining of 80s slashers - brooding, tense,...

The first one is a reimagining of 80s slashers - brooding, tense, slow, but with a great payoff and some nice twists. The second one is more fantasy action - lore building, more polished, faster paced. The sfx/vfx has probably the best payoff vs budget ratio I've ever seen - it's really impressive to see.
Finally, David Howard Thornton fucken kills it as art. The silence, the miming, the near-inhumanity - terrifying and fun somehow blended.
I just love it how Art doesnt have some tragic backstory like some slasher villains. They are just out for a good time. They are living their best life.

I just finally watched Terrifier 2 last night and I couldn’t agree more. I would add “physical comedy” to that list too. More than once I found myself laughing out loud during brutal scenes...

I just finally watched Terrifier 2 last night and I couldn’t agree more. I would add “physical comedy” to that list too. More than once I found myself laughing out loud during brutal scenes because Art was making a “lol gotcha!! *finger guns*” face or a “I KNOW, ISN'T THAT FUCKING HILARIOUS?!?” face at someone who happened upon the violence.
I'm an horror fan who thinks Child's Play is a 5/5 movie that is as perfect as Godfather. I couldn't finish the first movie. It just does not have anything worthwhile for me. It is just a gory...

I couldn't finish the first movie. It just does not have anything worthwhile for me. It is just a gory slasher. I like the genre, but it just didn't click with me.
First one is very light on any sort of plot. Give the second one a go, an if you like it check out the third. The second introduces our final girl and has a real story vs Art just going on a...

I'm the same way. I was just recommended to watch it by a friend. I get that it's cool that it's got that classic gorefest vibe. I like the genre. But I expected some kind of plot or something...

I've read online that Terrifier 2 has a better plot, but I'm not sure I can bring myself to watch it knowing how much I did not enjoy Terrifier 1.
For the uninitiated, what's the appeal of the Terrifier series? I don't think I know anyone who's seen it or talked about it
