I am not disagreeing with you here. Nothing has fundamentally changed but it has laid out the situation for people. This is just people processing that information, incorporating it into their worldview and attending to the emotions that come up. We all do that differently; anywhere from a shrug to a dramatic departure.

They were a popular talking head in the 70s. Lots of interviews and books. They were a major influence in media theory. They were called the prophet of the internet because a lot of what they were saying proved true.

They also had an unusual way of talking and writing, which probably draws from their teaching style.

They also inspired Videodrome, which is how I got into them.

We are going through a large culling at work atm and this did give me a lot of insight, so thanks for posting.

I also think it misframes the issue - it's bigger than AI and knowledge work. For me, for example, a lot of what drives that grief is a major shift in business priorities. I'm not only losing half my colleagues but the work I do is going to have far less relevance. A lot of what I do just doesn't seem to have any point anymore.

I'm still rocking my fair phone 4. Not needed to upgrade yet and probably won't for a couple years. It's got some wear and tear, the battery is a little less performant (got a second one sitting around for when it dips) but otherwise great. I damaged the usb a while back but that was a cheap easy repair.

I wonder what the economics are like around, mining, refining, constructing some of the required machinery there on the moon.

I'm rather than just going straight for the h3, start and grow an industrial base, in parallel with earth deliveries. The idea being that you could drastically reduce the mass you need to ship.

There is also a dignity factor. Many would prefer to work for their income rather than take handouts.

Personally I'd vote for income over work. It means that those who can't work are still taken care of. It also means that I'm not reliant on a workplace for survival. I'd hate to think what these guaranteed jobs are going to be like.

If it makes you feel better, a lot of "debut" book releases aren't the author's first written book, just the first published.
