    Does anyone else feel increasingly disconnected from Hollywood now? The last few years every time the Oscars roll around, I haven't even heard of most of the nominees.

    For me this might be partially because I now have a kid and mostly don't go out to see movies. Or it might just be that I don't really see a lot of ads now.

    But it feels like the only movies that are ever on my radar are marvel movies or big sequels that everyone is talking about.

      That's the problem. These movies are rarely awards-worthy. But if you aren't actively going to the movies, they are likely the only things you will ever hear about.

      I think this is it. I go to the theater at least once a week, and there were a lot of great movies last year. I've seen most on this list, and I'm looking forward to watching the Academy Awards....

      Maybe you're not on social media a lot, or not watching movie-related content so it shows up in your algorithm?

      The type of mid-budget film that used to be the Oscar’s bread and butter has gotten increasingly rare. We have blockbuster nominees now but stuff like Chicago used to make a ton of money.
