And Brosnahan as Lois seems to be predictably perfect casting, no surprises there.
I'm excited, this year is absolutely packed with movies I want to see in theaters. (Finally getting around to Sinners tonight, can't wait!)

In addition to Superman, the main ones on my radar are Thunderbolts (seeing soon), Fantastic 4, Mission Impossible, The Phoenician Scheme, 28 Years Later, Friendship, Jurassic World Rebirth (because Gareth Edwards), The Running Man, One Battle After Another, and Knives Out 3.
Some of these I may wait and stream depending on reviews.
And then there’s always a few per year that pop up on my radar when they get closer to release.
If a big blockbuster is received well, I love to catch it in my local B&B theater — it’s awesome, has reserved reclining seats and fantastic sound.
Sinners was a hell of an experience by the way, glad I caught it while it’s still in theaters.

I am SO DAMN EXCITED to see Hickman's buildup to Secret Wars. People make a big deal about SW but Hickman's story? It is a god damn tragedy of epic proportion, over and over and over again—loss after loss and sacrifice after sacrifice.
As I've gotten older, I've found the actual comics too... uncanny? The stories, the characters, too much like caricatures. Hickman gives his characters a sense of weight. The decisions that they have to make and have to live with? Beyond punishing.
It is so worth reading Hickman's run of Avengers. I disagree with the article's introduction: this run, this pressure cooker, is one of the best comic stories I've read in years.
The Marvel Unlimited app will put it all at your fingertips for cheap.
I don't want to spoil Doomsday (I know a little but am inferring a lot) but I suspect the film will begin with a powerful taste of that tragedy. If I'm right, it's going to hit many right in a soft spot. The Russos and their writers excel at this.
POTENTIAL SPOILER: That inference of mine?
I expect that the first incursion we see to the sacrifice of the X-Men that we know from the Fox films. Hell of a beginning? The
Russos will have to kill to make the incursions feel real.
Interesting! It's cool seeing someone super hyped about what's coming up for the MCU, because IMO Marvel has really flubbed the overarching storyline post-Endgame. I hope they get it back on track...
Interesting! It's cool seeing someone super hyped about what's coming up for the MCU, because IMO Marvel has really flubbed the overarching storyline post-Endgame. I hope they get it back on track -- I was going to say it feels crazy to jump into a big Doctor Doom event film with only 2 films of setup, but it's funny because that would be a luxury for pretty much any non-MCU film.
I haven't read a ton of comics, mostly because it's so daunting figuring out where to begin and having to jump around between different series and issues. I did like the Winter Soldier movie so much though that I bought 2-3 big physical volumes of Ed Brubaker's run on Captain America, and I loved reading that.
Does the Marvel Unlimited app have a way of creating some kind of reading list of the Hickman run you're talking about?
Ummmm it may? But I'd bet that you can find an existing reading list within the app. It may not be front and center but it could. By the way, the new MCU "arc"? It got its kickstart in Dr Strange...

By the way, the new MCU "arc"? It got its kickstart in Dr Strange 2 and Loki. It's going a different way because no Kang. But the hint was there in Dr Strange 2: "incursions".
UPDATE: No, no reading list. But it's not hard to DIY. Start with Avengers (2012) #1 then New Avengers (2012) #1. Work your way through.
Also, strong agree that Marvel has just dropped the ball almost entirely since Endgame. Thunderbolts is the first film that seems to be showing them beginning to get back on track. I have high hopes for the FF. But if that flubs....? Well, I'd still see Doomsday...
The Winter Soldier was the first Russo brothers + their writing partners film. They went on to do Civil War then Infinity War and Endgame. These guys grew up on Marvel like I did (also about the same age). When they said they were retiring from MCU films years ago but then, when asked if they would consider doing an MCU film again, they said something like, "Well, we loved Secret Wars, when we were kids. We'd really have to think about it if they called us up to say they're doing it."
And that happened.
When fans are making content for fans, you get amazing things like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. So here's to hoping!

The casting so far looks great, but as I mentioned in the Tildes thread about the teaser trailer, I wonder how they will use the other DC characters in this movie, and this trailer hasn't really clarified that yet. I hope their inclusion doesn't feel too pointless or make the movie too bloated.

I got the impression from the trailer that Guy Gardner/Hawkgirl/Mr. Terrific are a sort of government-regulated/sanctioned superhero team, given the uniforms, and from a narrative perspective that would really help contrast with Superman's more "I'm going wherever I want, wherever I'm needed" approach which he's under fire for in the trailer.
Regardless, Gunn is (IMO anyway) incredibly skilled at juggling an ensemble cast, so I'm not too worried about it feeling bloated.
I forgot that Gunn was doing this. I haven't been keeping up. It looks exactly like what a Gunn Superman would be. It looks exactly like what it needs to be. A movie made by someone who gives a damn.

I liked a few Vertigo comics (Sandman in particular), but was never into comics as a kid - financial issue ifnothing else. I saw some of the superhero stuff - I think I've seen all the Supermans, but I never have bothered with Batman. Ironman hit hard and awesome, and I've seen most of the Marvel stuff and thought most of it was done really well.
This looks good, although I'm skeptical of DC. I don't know Gunn well, but I'm hesitantly interested. But I find Superman to be somewhat meh, personally. And the interview scene here didn't draw me in.
So I figure - if people come back to this thread when it's out and want to convince someone they need to see it after all, I'm a good target for you to enthuse at. lol
This looks phenomenal, Gunn really knows how to make a comic book movie
