Quite like how one can believe in a story without believing it happened, one can also think fondly of a character (like Walker) or associated jokes (like Chuck Norris did XYZ) without connecting them to the actual person too much. In this case, for the better.

Chuck Norris was awesome until all the christian/hate stuff. His World Combat League was/is neat. it’s designed to be all action. anyways, i hope his legacy will pull more from his early years.

He more or less killed the meme himself endorsing Mike Huckabee with it.
That period was earlier for me, probably 05/06. Apparently the trend emerged in 05; I'm a little surprised at how fast that caught on in my area.
