And while I can't really recommend any "Holloween" movies specifically other than the original The Thing (which if you haven't seen you need to stop what you're doing and go watch immediately!)... but if you want to be psychologically/existentially terrified I can certainly recommend a few good movies to help with that:

The Shining, Get Out, Gerald’s Game, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Under The Skin, Green Room, Oldboy (the original only!), Don't Breathe

edit: Oh, actually I thought of another really good Halloween one... Let The Right One In, the original Swedish version is superior but the American remake actually isn't bad. And if you're looking for a Halloween comedy, What We Do in the Shadows, is fantastic.

p.s. And oh, man... I haven't seen Candyman in ages. Good call, and Tony Todd is a seriously underrated actor IMO.

p.p.s. You should really check out Cinnemassacre (especially their Monster Madness series) for oldschool Halloween and horror movie recommendations. It's the other channel of the dude who does "Angry Videogame Nerd".

Yeah I'm also a fan of Jay. His opinions on movies are closer to mine than Mike's and I also love weird artsy movies like A Ghost Story and since Jay really seems to be into Mandy I want to give that one a watch when I get the chance.

Well we clearly have similar taste in movies because I've seen all of those except Gerald's Game (which is also another movie that Jay recommended ;) ). I saw the original Let The Right One In and I thought it was great but I don't really have the best experiences with American remakes (Oldboy is actually a great example of this) so I haven't checked out the American one.

What We Do in the Shadows is such a great movie! It's pretty rare to find a movie with that comedy style so I've been following Taika Waititi's movies ever since.

I feel like I've honestly exhausted all psychological thriller movies at this point because it's my favorite genre so I've been forced to watch other things until Fincher, Lynch, etc make something else. And now I'll be taking a closer look at Hitchcock. I've only seen Rope and The Birds so I'll be checking out North by Northwest and Vertigo soon. What have you been watching recently?

Yeah we definitely seem to have similar taste in movies. Jay > Mike for me too. And oh God yes, Mandy is absolutely top of my watchlist right now (though I don't go the theatre so will have to wait to see it). The style somewhat reminds me of some of the most recent movies from one of my favorite directors, Nicolas Winding Refn though much more fast paced.

As for what I have been watching, I just watched Hausu, which was hilarious and bizarre. I was made aware of it from @Tenar's thread about the Sardonicast podcast which I had no idea existed despite loving 2/3 of the people involved in it (Adam from Your Movie Sucks, and Alex from I Hate Everything). And I have also slowly been working my way through the Bergman library, thanks to an amazing recommendation from @mrbig, as well.

Like I said... pretentious movie loving spirit animal. ;)

What about you, seen any good movies lately?

Oldboy is a fantastic movie but it's so heavy it's hard to recover after.

Yeah the twist is absolutely devastating, especially because of how sympathetic his character is, despite the violence he commits. But even still, if I could voluntarily forget the twist so I could watch it again for the first time, I would in a heartbeat. No other "conventional" movie has left me that so thoroughly mind-fucked and totally speechless at the end before.
