That said, the face CGI/makeup/whatever is right there deep in the uncanny valley. Not inhuman enough that my brain accepts it as fantasy and make & believe, and clearly not human enough to accept as real. Having a full CGI overlay with full feline face structure would have felt less weird. Or in the other direction, high quality but minimal stage makeup and no CGI.

I think this is cool. I want to see this. The dancing looks amazing, the sets are astounding, the singing sounds fantastic.
And the cats? The cats look how they look, and that's just fine with me. I take 'em as they come. I don't judge.
This looks like a fabulous movie, and I'm looking forward to it.
this just dropped and is exploding, mostly because it looks horrendously uncanny. see also, the twitter events thread on the trailer.
This is my favorite response, if only because it introduced me to the world of bad medieval cat paintings.
Hahaha omg that's incredible.
The reddit thread on /r/movies is filled with quite the hilarious comments. The trailer was worth it just for the laughs I got in the thread.
Seems like they’re mostly busy pedantically debating the precise definition of uncanny valley.
Man I am feelin Idris Elba as Macavity.
Everyone's gonna be real mad about the way the cats look though, I expect.

I'm trying to imagine Idris Elba wearing non-CGI cat ears and all it does is make me laugh. Sounds like a win either way, lol
Does the stage play use large props that are meant to make the performers look roughly housecat-size like the movie does?

Maybe this is what Crack is like.

I found this "behind the scenes" promotional video.
