The YouTube algorithm has been really, really good to me lately. This morning it pushed this Thai indie band called KIKI into my radar and I cannot stop listening to them. A while back (maybe two years ago now?) YouTube had pushed Parcels onto me (whom I really love) and KIKI feels like a more mellow, youthful version of that.

Found the artist on Tiktok and it's been nice to have for some background work music. I appreciate the African music vibes providing something different to my usual.

He's west (not southern) african, and the album isnt quite so lofi as what you linked, but it's excellent, chill music to put on in the background imo:

If you like pretty heavy rock/metal, I highly recommend them. Songs are stories or lyrics with meaning, none of this crap that's in the charts week after week. Some of the guitar work is absolutely amazing.

    Enjoy.

In the episode of RuPaul's Drag Race from last Friday the song chosen for the lip sync at the end was Cher's Dark Lady. I love a lot of Cher's work and that song has been stuck in my head since then. While I am still upset at who lost that week it at least had a good song at the end :p

Otherwise I have been listening to Kali Uchis' new album, ORQUÍDEAS (orchids) a lot, I definitely am at the point where I am craving some more new albums though!

Some of their catalog is kind of hit or miss to me , but I think 3 is absolutely fantastic start to end.

Been on a bit of a crossover thrash kick. So discovered fugitive that has a member of power trip in it. So I also had to listen to power trip. Also listened to pest control, midnight and sonja.

I've been listening to Future Islands's new album "People Who Aren't There Anymore", and I'm in love. I love them so much. Their albums have always been there for me when I need to be carried through the harder moments of a difficult day. They have a specific sound that they have absolutely perfected across half a dozen albums. The synths, drums, and bass paired with the gorgeous growling vocals and poetic lyrics come together to end up being my favorite band, it feels made specifically for me. I think we all need a band that feels made for us.

Future Islands - Give Me The Ghost Back
Future Islands iconic performance on Letterman back in 2014

I've also been enjoying Jeff Rosenstock's new album "HELLMODE" and Jessie Ware's album "That! Feels Good!"

I really want to keep up with new releases this year. In 2019, I spent the year ONLY listening to new albums. Because of that, I really expanded my tastes and made 2019 super memorable. I'm going to try and do that again this year, more or less.

Still just listening to my weird rock + kpop mix. I've mainly just been listening to my existing liked songs but some new highlights are:

    • Weekend by Taeyeon
    • Take a Look Around by Limp Bizkit

Take a Look Around was a great blast to the past. I forgot that Limp Bizkit did music for Mission Impossible 2. Took some time to listen to the whole "Chocolate Starfish and The Hot Dog Flavored Water" album while I was at it but the main MI theme is what I'd highlight. Absolutely love how the song starts off relatively calmly and then around 1:25 the main guitar kicks in and things go up to 11.

Weekend showed up in my K-pop focused "My Mix" playlist that YTM creates. I've definitely listened to this song before but for some reason I heard it again earlier today and it's been stuck in my head. This song is in stark contrast to the Limp Bizkit I've been listening to, so much more calm. Definitely give it a listen, Taeyeon is an amazingly talented artist.

Also listened to a bit of PSY this week. Don't have specific songs but learned that he's basically like a Korean Taylor Swift (only real comparison I have sorry!). He's way more popular in Korea than I originally thought and he seems to just be doing whatever he likes. His live performances seem like a lot of fun since his energy is just electrifying and he has the whole crowd jumping up and down.

There are new songs by The Halo Effect that I didn't know yet. So I've been listening to those and nothing else lately.
