Garth Brooks is such an amazing artist. I was looking back at his discography, and it's hard to believe he produced so many great albums. I was trying to pin down my favorite and couldn't really do it. If you liked "She's every woman" then maybe "Every now and then" and "In another's eyes".

It's really a shame his music isn't available for streaming. I have some mp3s of his physical albums uploaded in my YT music account from way back when it was Google Play, but I don't think you can do that anymore.

I saw Glass Animals live 2 weeks ago! So recently I've been listening to stuff from their new album, I Love You So F***ing Much. Specifically the songs Wonderful Nothing, How I Learned To Love The Bomb, and Show Pony. I wasn't the biggest fan of this album when it first came out, but after a bit (and the concert!) I've really come around on it.

Other than that, here's a quick rundown of my favorites from this past week:

    • Not the Man I Thought and The Quiet - Chelou
    • Limestone - Magic City Hippies
    • Boys - Hippo Campus
    • Nanã - Polo & Pan
    • concussion - girlhouse
    • Rill Rill - Sleigh Bells
    • Stay High - Brittany Howard
    • Missed The Boat - Modest Mouse

Ren is in a fight with Kujo Beats (lots of analysis of why this is happening, but I like Justin Hawkins out of The Darkness's take)

Maddy V with Charlotte Devaney. Maddy is one of the more interesting drum and bass MCs of recent years, and Charlotte Devaney one of the most fun DJs. Together they're amazing.

Also shout out to Chappell Roan's amazing performance of Good Luck Babe at the VMAs. Don't write off Chappell as just another pop act, she's one of the sharpest songwriters to come on the scene for a long time. Strong John Grant vibes.

I am trapped in the throes of the Kendrick Lamar/Drake beef, still.

It's a conflict I've felt since I was young, myself; I didn't like rap as a kid. Thought it was all surface level, glossy, bragging garbage. Then, I grew up, found out I was wrong, and realized that rap is an incredibly deep genre with some of the best storytellers music has ever seen. I just had to look past radio hits, look for real shit, people taking their life experiences and venting them all out on wax. Men and women baring their souls over a beat.

So yeah, still hated Drake, still hate Drake. And then, he had the nerve to try and put himself on the level of Kendrick Lamar, one of the greatest storytellers rap has ever seen, and he got absolutely eviscerated for it. The 'man' was torn apart sin by sin, leaving nothing but a talentless coward desperate for the world's approval, and who, for the first time in decades, wasn't getting it - at all.

My favorite pastime has been going back to older Kendrick Lamar tracks and realizing that he called all of this years before it happened - Black Friday and The Heart, Part IV in particular have some shockingly relevant lyrics.

The fact that the man was able to say the lines,

"The whole industry been in shambles
Everybody fugazi, I'm just changing the channel
Kendrick Lamar, the people's champion, I'm animal for analysts
Career damaging verses, meditating with candles lit,"

on a song with one of the people involved in the feud almost a full decade ago is shocking.

I am looking forward to the next chapter, where it appears Kendrick is going to go after all of the useless, shallow pop-rap and try to bring the industry back to what it used to be in the early days.

A lot of Sum 41, actually. I stopped listening to them pretty much 20 years ago after the release of their third album, Chuck, which I felt, at the time, was aping Green Days American Idiot. I was never into Pop Punk, being a Metal guy, but Sum 41 appealed to me, I think, because of their obvious Metal influence; I was also, at the time, getting more into extreme Metal, so something had to give, I suppose.

Anyway, I showed my oldest Fat Lip about a year ago and it became their favorite song and Sum 41 their favorite band, so when my wife and I saw they were doing they farewell tour this year, we figured it'd be fun to go. That was on Wednesday night for us. So this week I had put together a Playlist of their Set and had been familiarizing myself with them again and very much enjoying it. While I didn't initially enjoy the stuff off their latest album, it's actually grown on me quite a bit.

So, Sum 41 - Heaven :x: Hell. I don't think it'll be a sticky album for me, but I've given it several listens and it's more enjoyable than a few others I've listened to in recent memory, so I'll keep it on my phone for now and I'm sure it'll come up in a Shuffle in the future.

I've been waiting a while now Nilüfer Yanya's latest album, Method Actor. One of my favorite artists for the past five plus years. I'm still formulating my thoughts on the album as a whole, but there were so many singles that I already loved.

I would recommend going through her discography in order of you've never heard of her and want to check her out.

I've been rediscovering a lot of Spanish rock and pop that I haven't listened to for varying amounts of time. There were a few years where El Canto del Loco was a regular - in no particular order, Zapatillos, El Madre de Jose (video is a bit raunchy), Besos. In an older rock sound, there's Heroes del Silencio - Entre dos Tierras, Maldito Duende.

Newer stuff - Rayos Laser - Ya Me Hiciste Mal, Daniela Spalla - Vete De Una Vez, Natalia Lafourcade - her Tiny Desk concert is worth a listen, Jesse & Joy - Dueles.

There's been a pretty massive Peter Steele sized hole in my heart since 2010, and it's usually eased by a big Type O binge every year. However, it appears there is now a new ray of light to fill that particular hole in the form of Neon Nightmare who just released the second tune from their upcoming album. This, along with the first single, have now been on repeat for the past several hours.

On this particular topic, shout out to Denis Pauna and his excellent 'If Type O Negative wrote...' releases.
