This (and last!) week's album and EP releases
Alright so some stuff happened preventing last week's list from coming together until late enough where it would be too close to this one. As a result, I'm going to rework this to make it easier for the person I'm working with and plan on these coming out on Friday nights. This week, we have a big-ass list with both weeks shoved together. Sorry for the delay...enjoy :)
Here's a list of a lot of things that came out in this past week (and this time, the week before). Of course, there's no way to be completely comprehensive with this and I avoided including things where information was too lacking, so feel free to mention anything that isn't on here that you think is worth mentioning. Beyond that, if you have any thoughts of any of these albums, it would be great to hear them :)
Thank you to @Cleb for the help and @cfabbro for the links!

Charlotte - Nowhere To Hide EP || Couldn't find EP, so linked to two singles included on it.

Leven Kali - Leven Kali: Low Tide || Linked to no "parental-advisory" version as well.
Newsboys - United || "Deluxe" album linked to.
NOTS - 3 || No song.link. Linked to bandcamp instead.

Thanks to @Bauke for putting it in table form and writing a script to do it automatically next time, too. :)
Some of my thought on the albums I have already listened to from this 2 week list:
Holly Herndon - PROTO (Glitch Pop) || Song.link
I listened to while I did song.link list. Beautiful choral music combined with glitch. Mildly experimental sounding but still pleasant to listen to. Really great stuff.
Bad Religion - Age of Unreason (Punk Rock, Pop Punk) || Song.link
They have been doing this for almost 40 years. If you like them, you will like this album. It's more of the same... but if it ain't broke?
Carlton Jumel Smith - 1634 Lexington Avenue (Soul) || Song.link
Amazing backing band... singing and lyrics pretty meh. Didn't even finish it.
Joy Williams - Front Porch (Pop Rock) || Song.link
The Civil Wars are one of my favorite bands, but this solo album by Joy was really generic pop country and pretty underwhelming. She has a fantastic voice (so did the backup singer) and the album was okay, but John Paul White's solo stuff is way more interesting. His latest album, The Hurting Kind (released last month), is classic, oldschool Country & Western and feels very Roy Orbison inspired. It's great. 👍
Logic - Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (Pop Rap) || Song.link
Listened to earlier tonight and made a comment on the topic submitted on it:
Passenger - Sometimes It's Something, Sometimes It's Nothing at All (Singer/Songwriter, Folk Pop) || Song.link
Does Passenger ever put out a bad album?
Vampire Weekend - Father of the Bride (Indie Pop) || Song.link
Ditto for Vampire Weekend. Super catchy, upbeat and enjoyable. Worth the ~6 year wait since the last album!
Some other albums that caught my eye this week that I plan on listening to.
Mavis Staples - We Get By (Deep Soul) || Song.link
Mourning [a] BLKstar - Reckoning (Soul) || Song.link
Ona - Full Moon, Heavy Light (Alt Country) || Song.link
Ordinary Elephant - Honest (Americana) || Song.link
Sammy Hagar & The Circle - Space Between (Hard Rock) || Song.link || I didn't know he was still making music.
Shaggy - Wah Gwaan?! (Dancehall) || Song.link || Ditto for Shaggy
Tank and the Bangas - Green Balloon (Alternative R&B, Neo-Soul) || Song.link || based on killer NPR Tiny Desk
Whitesnake - Flesh & Blood (Hard Rock) || Song.link || Aren't these guys like 100 years old now too? ;)
William Brittelle - Spiritual America (Art Pop, Singer/Songwriter) || Song.link
How do you manage to listen to so much music? Most of my life I've been more of a tv/movie guy but not lately. I try to listen to lots of music but sometimes it's hard getting past the first 30 seconds of a song because it isn't my type of genre.
Do you spend the time to listen music you don't like? I want to develop a more diverse taste it's just so hard. Jealous of you.
Can't speak for cfabbro (in fact I imagine we have different approaches) but in my experience the way to do this is to have two separate goals:
To find music you like and enjoy it (probably what you already do).
and
To know more about music and to experience more of what it has to offer regardless of how you feel about it.
The latter is what gets you to go through masses of music and be a more savvy listener. But what's important to keep in mind is that these two goals work together really well. If you listen to things you don't care for and keep doing so, you often come to understand things you never did before, recognize trends and lines of influence you never knew before, and otherwise have avenues to appreciate more than you used to or appreciate the things that you already like in a new way. Music is an extremely intertextual medium, and more familiarity with anything synergizes with a million other things and suddenly music as a whole is more interesting.
There's other benefits...for instance expanding your horizons and listening to things you're not a fan of is a great opportunity for being introspective and coming to understand your own tastes and values in a way you never will if you only listen to things that immediately sound good to you. I personally just value knowing more about art for the sake of knowing more. But if you have the chance, even if your ultimate goal is just finding the most that you like, I'd suggest forcing yourself through some stuff. Just don't do it to the point where music listening itself is a chore.
It depends on how much I don't like something, but generally yes, I try to give most things a fair shake unless it really grates on my nerves . ;)
"How" in the logistical sense? Easy; I constantly have background noise going, either podcasts, youtube videos and/or music, whether I am working, just browsing the net, doing chores or playing video games. It's pretty rare for me to have complete silence while I am doing something unless it requires my completely undivided attention. Even when meditating I usually have something playing in the background (e.g. Gyuto Monks).
And as for where I get my music from, I tend to go in spurts, alternating between curated feeds of my own creation (e.g My YouTube Live performances subscription feed), and relying on lists like the one in this very topic, from /r/listentothis, /r/vintageobscura/, RYM or other similar "discovery focused" communities/services.
p.s. Yeah, that's similar to my rationale too, @Whom. "Broadening my musical horizons" has been a goal of mine for a long time. The only wall I have hit in that regard is top 40 pop country and mumble rap. No matter how many times I approach those genres and try to give them a chance, I just can't seem to enjoy them. They just annoy me way too much. :P But other than those genres, I enjoy pretty much everything from Medieval Classical to oldschool Gangsta Rap.
