What are some of your favorite live performances viewable online?
I'll start with one I found recently. This is Kings of Convenience and Feist playing an as of yet unreleased song: https://youtu.be/oFsFht0Z3mw
And then for full shows I love this Bon Iver show (Pioneer Works 2016): https://youtu.be/YJNi7aRwUzU
And this Deerhunter show (Best Kept Secret 2018): https://youtu.be/X2EuD9C8VbA
Stuff - Live at Montreux, 1976 - nothin' but groove. These guys were Vulfpeck before the Vulfpeck guys were born.
BTW, @Parliament and @arghdos are both mods for listentoconcerts, a subreddit of full-length concert performances.
I listen to this Stuff show once a month probably. JJ Cale and Leon Russell will always be my all-time favorite though.
Speaking of Vulfpeck... their performance of 1612 on Colbert is killer. And I will be sure to watch that Stuff concert if they are at all comparable to them.
p.s. Boredop, it took quite a while to find, and well over a month to actually download... but I finally managed to get Bayou Maharajah and it's now sitting in my watchlist queue. ;)
Cornell Dupree's guitar alone is more funk than Vulfpeck could handle :pp
The guitar and bass were great, but holy shit that sax! I am gonna have to dig up some more King Curtis. That was amazing.
Yes, King Curtis was a legend, but don't sell Cornell short! He was one of the most influential session funk guitarists of the decade. Tracking his career is insane.. he's the guy who played with Aretha, the RH Factor, Sam Cooke, Freddie King, Etta James, Jack McDuff, Ester Phillips, Rahsan Roland Kirk, Joe Cocker, Donny Hathaway.... The list goes on. If I had a dime for every time I heard a great funky lick and looked it up to find Cornell... I'd have a butt load of money :p
Oh man, you're gonna love that film. Enjoy!
Ahhh yeah that's a killer show. Off the top of my head, I'd likely have to go for Little Feat at the Ultrasonic in '74... The perfect rock and roll performance. The Ultrasonic was a magnificent studio (and simulcast station in Long Island) for a few years in the early 70s, with outstanding tapes from Bonnie Raitt, and the Band, and Herbie Hancock among others, but it's hard to pick a show that better exemplifies the heights a band can reach than Little Feat at the Ultra.
For the visually inclined, and those looking for something more contemporary, Chris Thile has a number of videos of full Bach performances on Mandolin out there. As much as the Punch Brothers bore the pants off me, there's no denying that Chris is among the best Mando played in the world (along with Sam Bush)
The Kingdom performance is pretty good too.
But yeah, Devin Townsend is an absolute treat to watch :)
I generally prefer more intimate live performances to full-blown concert recordings, and have a huge YouTube playlist dedicated to my favorites, for anyone interested:

But one of my favorite concerts of all time is Queen at LIVE AID in 1985. It's considered by many to be the world's greatest live gig for a reason:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A22oy8dFjqc
I actually slightly prefer Queen - Rock Montréal though... it's longer, higher quality and the set list is better IMO, although the crowd is way smaller/quieter and IIRC Brian May even mentions them not knowing the lyrics at one point. ;) It's not free to watch, but is only $4 to rent ($6 to own) on YouTube movies so I would highly recommend it, especially if you're a Queen fan and haven't seen it yet:

I like those smaller intimate ones as well, particularly the KEXP ones. This Snail Mail one is probably my fave, got me into her: https://youtu.be/8DEFQ5hVnpU
Ooooh... I have not. Subscribed, and I will have to dig through the back catalogue when I get a chance. Thanks!
p.s. Here are some others channels I subscribe to that people who like intimate, live stuff (@flying_saucer_eyes) might also enjoy:
Indie88 Toronto
NPR Music
OurVinyl
Jam In The Van
SoFar Sounds
KEXP
KNKX Public Radio
CandyRat Records
Elif'in Hecesi
HI*Sessions
Onder Invloed / The Influences
WGBH Music
WXPN
And I would certainly welcome any more suggestions people have for those kind of channels. :)
edit: Adding all the new ones here so I have a nice comprehensive list for later ;)
Audiotree Live (mentioned by Bauke above)
HawaiiMusicSupply (thanks @ruspaceni)
New Sounds (thanks @boredop)
La Blogothèque (thanks @no_exit)
Let's add New Sounds from my station WNYC to your list.
Oooh, Calpurnia right off the bat... nice. Thanks for the recommendation! :)
Fuck yeah Melvins!!! Hopefully they play a show again soon. They had a gig at the Metro in Chicago last summer but I had to miss it.
King Diamond - Live at The Fillmore in Philadelphia
Dio - We Rock (1984)
Live music is boring to me for the most part so I don't watch much, but Black Sabbath in Paris (1970) is something I have to watch through every year or so. Sometimes with Sabbath recordings I get so caught up in Geezer and Tony that I forget how much of a monster Bill Ward could be, and this kicks my ass into remembering.
Squarepusher - Planet Gear Anything he touches is amazing, to be honest, and he can do it live. There's even this jam he did before that tour for the Guardian that is great, with the same drummer (Alex Thomas).
Not sure if this counts, but I stumbled across this and couldn't help but get captivated by it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5897dMWJiSM - Marcus Aurelius- A lecture on stoicism
Mad to think how all of it was just off the top of his head with no notes/prompts
Probably not given this topic is in ~music, so I don't think OP was referring to just any live performance but only music related ones specifically. But regardless, I am bookmarking that lecture since it's right up my alley. So thanks for sharing it anyways. :P
Ah my bad on that, I thought I was still clicked on misc or something. That'll teach me for posting that soon after waking up I guess.
In that case lemme give you something more musical. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bi4vOo9oSRM - Mike Love "Permanent Holiday" (personal fave part at 5:12)
I've been getting quite into that loop pedal style of making a song from scratch, and I haven't been able to get this out of my head for weeks.
Mike Love is great. I have the same song but from his HI*Sessions set that went viral a few years ago in one of my reggae playlists. And I fucking love live loop station songs too. Here are some of my favs:
ThePETEBOX - Where is my Mind?
DubFX - Love Someone
Imogen Heap - Just for Now
Zoe Keating - Tetrishead
Ed Alleyne-Johnson - Busking Electric Violin in Chester UK
Here’s a 1997 performance by Doc Watson and his grandson Richard Watson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mh_PuYjBjc
(Doc Watson is all the more amazing an artist as he was blind from birth.)
Nightwish - Ghost Love Score from their Showtime, Storytime DVD.
