Tildes is a very serious site, where we discuss very serious matters like lists, thanksgiving and sexploitation. Tags culled from the highest voted topics from the last seven days, if anyone was bemused.

But one of my favourite tags happens to be offbeat! Taking its original inspiration from Sir Nils Olav III, this thread is looking for any far-fetched offbeat stories lurking in the newspapers. It may not deserve its own post, but it deserves a wider audience!

      Friday is the new statue day! The weird thing I find about statues is that they don't look anything like the person. Another one that I am right now recalling is Ronaldo's.

    WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Police in New Zealand are waiting for nature to take its course after a man allegedly tried to smuggle a 33,000 New Zealand dollar ($19,000) pendant out of a jewelry store by swallowing it.

    The 32-year-old man, who has not been publicly named, is accused of eating an ornate Fabergé octopus pendant at Partridge Jewelers in Auckland on Nov. 28.

    Evidence of the alleged theft has yet to emerge, police said Wednesday.

      A diamond-studded locket swallowed by a New Zealand man who tried to steal it has been "recovered", police say.

      The Fabergé egg locket, valued at NZ$33,585 ($19,300; £14,600), was recovered in a "natural" manner. "Medical intervention [was] not required," they told the BBC.

    An Italian mayor has apologised to the family of opera star Luciano Pavarotti after the town of Pesaro encased a statue honouring the late singer within a Christmas ice rink.

    Before it was opened on 29 November, Biancani posted a doctored image of Pavarotti's statue playing ice hockey with the hashtag #DaiUnCinqueAPavarotti, which translates to "Give a high-five to Pavarotti".

      I read this a couple days back, what a trip! Can you imagine the headache, I hope they gave it some beer to slowly bring it back to life.

    Some of you may be interested in having a world record, here are some ideas:

    1. Curtis Rivers (UK) performed the highest bungee jump when he leapt from a hot air balloon at 4,632 m (15,200 ft) over Puertollano, Spain, in May 2002.
    2. Nissan France staged the highest car bungee jump from 65 m (213 ft 3 in) for an ad campaign in August 2024.
    3. The highest bungee jump dive into water was performed by Raymond Woodcock (UK), who dove from 141.73 m (464 ft 11.91 in) at The National Diving & Activity Centre in Chepstow, UK, in June 2015.
    4. The highest bungee jump on a motorcycle record is currently unclaimed. The minimum requirement is 20 m (65.65 ft).
    5. The most bungee jumps in one hour title is also currently unclaimed. Someone would have to do at least 19 to win the record.
