This was a trade many predicted months ago when it became clear the Tigers would not compete for a playoff spot this year, and with this acquisition the Dodgers have assembled what might be the best team in baseball history.

I'm a Brewers fan, a team that just passed the Dodgers for the best record in baseball this season, and who were considered to be the other frontrunners for Skubal. I'm not too upset in the grand scheme of things about missing out of Skubal, largely because the Brewers have gotten to be so good in the last ten years on the strength of their prospect development, but it does feel like another peg in the argument that the Dodgers are the only team with the resources to put such a team together. It's like they're playing a whole other class of the sport compared to the other 29 teams, and with the CBA talks ongoing, it definitely seems to be progressing toward a labor dispute next season.

II definitely foresee a lockout next year unfortunately. I will say from a fan perspective, I actually do want a salary cap/floor. And it's not just because the Dodgers keep buying everyone they can. I feel like a cap/floor has served hockey well with a lot of parity and teams having to get creative on how to spread out the money to field a competitive team. It has made for a lot of exciting seasons.

Not sure what it would look like in the MLB, I know players absolutely would not want it. And it's not even a "siding with the owners" thing, I'm siding with the fans and what I think would make the sport more exciting.

Cap/Floor is something that probably makes sense long term but I do not see the union agreeing to it under any terms

Yeah fuck this sport, congrats to the dodgers on buying up the league for the next decade with their TV revenue and deferred contracts.

Blame MLB. When Guggenheim was in the process of buying the dodgers from Frank McCourt, they negotiated a 30 year term for being treated like a bankrupt team in exchange for paying $2B for the dodgers. This caps their revenue sharing contributions which means they keep almost all of their enormous local TV deal. Without that cap on contributions, this is much less of an issue.

Last few years it started making me uncomfortable with how they have been using accounting tricks or whatever to buy a dominant team. I always hated the yankees when they dominated similarly.

And now I'm not following them at all anymore because of their association with trump.
