Much more surprising is Brandon Miller at #2. I know a lot of Hornets fans who are very afraid considering the teams history drafting at the #2 spot.

    • 1992 Alonzo Mourning (#1 pick Shaquille O'Neal)
    • 2004 Emeka Okafor (#1 pick Dwight Howard)
    • 2012 Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (#1 pick Anthony Davis)

Should the hornets have taken Scoot Henderson? Only time will tell, but if history is any indication, Victor Wembanyama is going to be an all time great.

Are you happy with who your team selected? Any thoughts on the draft in general?

While I probably would have picked Scoot myself (and funnily enough think he was the better “fit” with LaMelo), I think people really overlooked his flaws when pushing the narrative that the Hornets screwed up horribly.

His G-League tape left a lot to be desired and in my opinion showed a lack of improvement over his time there, and honestly I also didn’t see the level of explosiveness and athleticism that people claimed was there. Scoot is no Russell Westbrook, that’s for sure. Best case scenario to me is Baron Davis. More likely is Eric Bledsoe. Worst case scenario is the Hornets already have him at home in Dennis Smith Jr. Meh. I’m not super tore up about it yet.

Not saying Brandon didn’t have his own flaws (he does - disappeared in games against top competition, low shot release that doesn’t take advantage of his height, lacking strength to get into the lane), but people acted like Scoot was this can’t miss generational prospect, and I just don’t see that in him.

Anyways…beyond just the #2 pick, the Hornets also selected Nick Smith Jr. at #27, James Nnaji at #31, and Amari Bailey at #41. Solid solid value across the board, and I particularly think taking a flier on Nick Smith Jr at 27 was a great move to potentially boost Brandon Miller (former AAU teammates) but also to see if Nick himself can bring his game up to match his former #1 recruit ranking after injuries slowed him down.

Very interesting choice, I was incredibly surprised at the Hornets not taking Scoot Henderson, I believe he would have done well LaMello. Although with him playing alongside with Damien Lillard, I am sure that will develop him into a good player. As a Kings fan, it felt ODD but good to not see the Kings in the top 10 draft pick teams.

I am so nervous to see what the Blazers do next. Will they trade Dame and rebuild around Scoot+Sharpe? Will they trade Scoot to try and get Dame some veteran talent? Will they keep both and just make do with lots of top quality guards but limited talent at forward and center? I was kinda hoping they’d get Miller since he’s a forward and that’s really what the Blazers need at the moment but I’m also so psyched they got Scoot, just not sure what the next move is and I would really hate to see Dame leave.

Blazer fan here and I agree with this take. The major factor still is that Dame is well rooted to Portland, its culture, its populace. And this all matters to him greatly. His entire family lives here, he is building a second home as we speak, the city and Oregon as a whole have embraced him in ways that would make any other superstar jealous. It's a good life.

His only ask has always been consistent and non-cryptic: he wants to be competitive and is willing to think outside the box to do so (aka, he isn't that guy pressuring the FO to form a super-team just to win a chip). If the Blazer org was doing pure business, we would probably trade him without question. But I think they believe, and we as fans mostly agree, that Dame has earned the right to decide that fate for himself.

I will add, this yearly trade-talk tradition with him is mostly media-driven but annoying nonetheless and Dame can be his own worst enemy when he opens his mouth at times. But for the most part I appreciate a dude who can keep it real and not be afraid to speak his mind, especially when every other comment on his socials is "When you comin to ____ bruh?"

EDIT: A quote the entire Blazer org could stand to hear right now.. "real G's move in silence like lasagna".

Hate seeing Jaime go to the Heat, being a Laker fan. I love him as a player and felt like he would've fit in perfectly, but he'll probably fit anywhere.. hate to see him go.
