Damn. They’ve been making some incredible signings in the last few years. Lots of talented young players to phase out the old guard. Especially in midfield.

Kane is a great shout. I think he'd do really well at an already established team like Real Madrid. Not many centerforwards out there today who can both finish and create chances at an elite level like that. Maybe Lautaro Martinez is another shout? Not sure how much either of them would cost, but Lautaro would probably be a bit cheaper and he's about five years younger than Kane.

i legit think kane is one of the best "number nines" in the world right now (and, as a gooner, it hurts me to say that). if he's scoring like he is with spurs, he would break records at RM.

Aren't they supposed to drop a ton of money on Mbappé now that he might be able to join? The problem is Mbappé has said he prefers playing on the left wing, which is Vini's position. I'm not sure...

Mbappé to Madrid doesn't make sense tactically or in team composition but it seems to be written in the stars. Mbappé's goal has been to play for Madrid and Florentino Perez is prepared to move mountains to make it happen. The next month should be interesting.

I think Mbappe is a big enough player that they would try and make it work by any means necessary. Him, Vinicius, and Haaland seem to be the best players of this next generation of forwards, so to be able to have two of them on one team, even if they both prefer the same position, could be immense. Not saying it'd be easy, or even likely to happen, but I think it's one of those what-if scenarios that they'd really kick themselves in the future for not trying everything to make happen.

I just hope Real Madrid don't come third in their group, I swear if we have to play them this year.

€103m is a decent chunk of money so hopefully he does well for them and doesn't end up like some of the other €100m+ players, which did not end up living up to their hype. Looks to be about 50/50 based on this list. I'd say about 8 of those didn't go great, 3 are unproven and the rest were fairly successful, in that they performed decently (neymar probably didn't win as many trophies as he wanted to though)

apparently arsenal is going to offer £100m for declan rice, and another £80m for caicedo. football player values increased so much over the past few years.

Caicedo is a touch below €100m. But yes football player inflation has been big in recent years. I think part of it depends on the league as well. For example, last year Chelsea spent more than the entire bundesliga combined, so there aren't a ton of clubs that can pay massive fees like that. It tends to be kept to the premier League, oil clubs, and Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Real Madrid is not Chelsea or Manchester United so they probably won't suffer the bad luck of signing €100m+ players that underperform.

I dunno, Barcelona is a couple of those less than great transfers. Both coutinho and dembele haven't worked out as well as they might have wanted.

Are we really in the same category as Chelsea at this point? All of ETH's signings settled pretty nicely for their first season except Malacia who was still good depth, and none of them was more than 86m with add-ons. We just overpaid for them because we were raiding one club and leaving them with no time to replace those players. I think we're past the worst of it, which was overpaying for luxury players like Pogba and Sancho.

United are getting better but they still overpaid for Antony who may have a domestic abuse case blowing up right now. We'll see if this window is better.

Didn’t hear that news about him, but I haven’t been /r/Reddevils since Sunday of course.

Also I've got a ton of Tildes invites, so if you know anyone that follows the sport and wants to be part of the community here, let me know. Same goes for everyone else reading this thread. We basically had zero sports-related discussion on Tildes until the last week.

Was it ever confirmed Liverpool were going for Bellingham? It just seems itks on twitter that didn’t have any source.

I think there was information beyond just itks that we were looking into it, and then withdrew a bid a few months ago as the prices got too high. This guardian article is the most reputable source I can immediately find which notes our interest (and subsequent dropping of interest) to check tiers and stuff I'd have to go on Reddit, which I don't particularly want to do at the moment.

Edit: Right I dug around on our discord and found a tweet from one of our high tier journalists that was made around the same time a bunch of journalists that are known to talk to the club all ruled out Bellingham, basically saying we had interest but it didn't make sense given the rebuild needed. This is a wonderful comment. Thanks for digging around for me! Fingers crossed with Mac Allister settles in quick and we can find some more depth to put around him.
