AEW Rampage weekly discussion thread: June 16, 2023

Welcome to the AEW Rampage discussion thread for June 16, 2023! We're coming to you this week from Washington D.C., following an action-packed Dynamite episode. Check out the chaotic and star-studded last 5 minutes here if you're considering giving AEW a shot!

MATCH CARD

Trios Match: United Empire (Will Ospreay, Jeff Cobb & Kyle Fletcher) vs. Best Friends/CHAOS (Trent Beretta, Chuck Taylor & Rocky Romero)

The NJPW United Empire faction, led by Will Ospreay, is set to face off against Best Friends/CHAOS this week. Will Rocky, Trent?, and Chuckie T be able to withstand the powerful combination of Ospreay, Jeff Cobb, and Kyle Fletcher? Or will Ospreay's momentum going into Forbidden Door, coupled with the powerhouse Cobb, be enough to secure a victory?

Mixed Tag Team Match: Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal & Karen Jarrett vs. Mark Briscoe, Papa Briscoe & Aubrey Edwards

A unique mixed tag team match is on the cards, with the trio of Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal, and Karen Jarrett squaring off against Mark Briscoe, Papa Briscoe, and AEW Referee Aubrey Edwards, who is making her in-ring debut. Can the Briscoes and Edwards pull off a win against their more seasoned opponents, or will Sonjay Dutt's gang of miscreants interfere to gain the upper hand?

Singles Match: Konosuke Takeshita vs. Bandido

'El Hijo del Don Callis' and Bandido are set for an explosive singles match. Each wrestler brings a unique style to the ring, and it will be a spectacle to see these two top-tier talents clash head-on.

Singles Match: Taya Valkyrie vs. Trish Adora

In a high-stakes singles match, D.C.'s own Trish Adora will face off against Taya Valkyrie. After failing to capture the title from Jade Cargill, Valkyrie seems to have set her sights on the new TBS Champion, Kris Statlander. As she looks to make a statement, this could be an excellent opportunity for Trish to show what she's capable of.

I usually don't watch Rampage... but Will Ospreay is on the card. Also, Aubrey is wrestling? That is certainly interesting. Not so sure how much I like the idea of a ref getting involved....

Also, Aubrey is wrestling? That is certainly interesting. Not so sure how much I like the idea of a ref getting involved. Hopefully she is at least somewhat trained.

I think all the refs have some level of training. Have you seen any videos of the stuff Rick Knox would do in PWG and the other indies?

AEW does pretty good catch-up videos for the big matches/feuds. Look around their Youtube channel.

5/16/23 - AEW Road to Austin - Jericho v Strong + Jay White v Ricky Starks & A Historic Trios Battle

5/30/23 - AEW Road to San Diego - Kris Statlander's Epic Return + the Fallout from Double or Nothing This showcases the new TBS Champion's recovery from a real life ACL injury and her journey to get back in the ring and prove to people she's not injury prone after suffering her 2nd tear at only 27 years old. Statlander was red hot before tearing her ACL and was poised to get the championship. She was able to carry that momentum and beat the now 60-1 Jade Cargill and end her undefeated streak. The video also catches you up on TNT champion Wardlow, The Acclaimed's journey to towards the House of Black's trios titles, Orange Cassidy's outstanding International title run that has been 20+ straight amazing matches, and Bullet Club Gold feuding with Ricky Starks and FTR.

6/13/23 - AEW Road to D.C. - The AEW World Champion MJF Collides w/ Adam Cole in an Eliminator Match

I'll edit this description and add more later. I've almost exited out of this page twice switching between screens so I want to post it before I lose it.

Banger of a card.. Though I wonder if these types of cards will be relegated to Collision from now on since it has a lot more momentum behind it. Regardless, we’ve been eating so good recently

It’s so odd to see someone in referee stripes waiting on the apron for a tag but I’m here for it!
