What did you do this week (and weekend)?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
Left my job and returned home. Work was away from home in a remote place.
The management and I had some significant disagreements and I left my job after a few days. Returned home the next day.
Mom was happy to see me, but, dad was disappointed that I left such a good job over some argument.
Do you plan on jumping right back into the job market or taking some time to relax first?
Good luck and I hope your next job is better to you.
I'll take a few weeks off and stay home for a while. I'll be on the lookout for a new job but won't be joining anywhere until July.
Thank you for your thoughtful message.
I am vacationing in Aruba.

I went to a work "celebration" week for a company I joined around a month ago.
Lots of interaction with people I've never met in person, and some I've met virtually. There wasn't too much "work", thankfully, so there were more fun little events/activities (like escape rooms) instead.
It was definitely overwhelming, but it was nice to have some "forced interaction" cause I struggle with getting myself to casually talk to people when working remotely.
I tried really hard to get work done, but all I've done is sleep. I did go to therapy and worked out some things.
I've recently recovered from being sick so I'm kind of going through some stuff mentally because of it too.
But I have a weekend to be out and about outdoors for the first time tomorrow in more than a month and to also to also play some TTRPGs finally! They're not related. They're two separate events. I'm not playing TTRPGs outdoors.
Last weekend I joined a 5k race on a forest trail. The path was rocky and hilly and I became exhausted halfway through. I thought I would be at the bottom of the pack for sure, but I was surprised to end up in the middle. Strongly recommend outdoor 5ks to people who want cardio exercise. Even if you can't run the whole way it feels good just to complete the course.
I've had a nasty case of strep throat since Monday. The soonest I could get antibiotics was Wednesday night, and here I am midday Friday feeling much better (but not 100%). I've had to use sick leave every day this week; hopefully that doesn't make anyone upset with me.
I've mainly been sleeping and guzzling tea, but yesterday I at least felt well enough to clean up the giant mess that being glued to the couch had caused me to make. I did accomplish one little childhood goal: I got all gold trophies on Gran Turismo 2's Super license.
This week was the first remotely quiet week I've had at work since last year. I was finally able to catch up on some old tasks in my backlog that have been waiting for months:
I also got a solid raise in my annual performance review, which is much appreciated given the growing cost of living.
Next week I'm back to customer-facing work, helping a client's client integrate with their platform. It's going to be flat-out.
I spent the week working quite a bit. No real time to do anything else. I'm spending this weekend chilling at the coffee shop and reading my book. I've been very lonely as of late, and hoping I get an opportunity to talk to someone this weekend. Otherwise, just a normal weekend for me!
What book are you going to read? If you have read some of it already, how is it so far?
I'm in the middle of Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson. It's Book 2 of the series, and so far it's been one of the best books I've read in a long while. Very engaging throughout; very much a page turner.
Worked, went to the dentist, took care of the new puppy + did some house cleaning here and there when I could. My other half has not been feeling 100% as of late but helps when/where they can, and has picked up the slack when I was the one not feeling so well, so happy to take care of them as well and hoping they feel better soon. If the weather doesn't wash out the vendors' market tomorrow, I'd like to go browsing there. Probably a little gardening for the weekend, too. Otherwise, just hoping for a low-key weekend to end a busy week.
I just received the banjo I bought, a Recording King RK-03s, aka a "Dirty 30s Open Back." It's a $250 banjo I found used for $180, then another listing through Guitar Center for $150 and it looks good as new and plays like a dream.
I wanted a banjo, mandolin, and guitar when I started electric guitar 18 years ago (jesus, that's a long time), and found everything I've learned to play, Guitar and family, Ukulele, mandolin and violin, are all conceptually similar with the exception of the violin which you bow with. Banjo's use of drone strings, and the drum head, sort of make it quite a different beast. It's fun and fairly easy to play since I don't have to learn a lot, but some techniques, like finger picking for Scruggs-style and clawhammer, need a lot of development, but otherwise it's just an open G tuned instrument, so it's not hard.
I took my family and our friends to a cabin on a river and we spent 5 days swimming and hanigng out. Was a great time til i got stung by a wasp in my elbow on the last day.
