What did you do this week (and weekend)?

As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!

I feel like I keep sabotaging myself into ‘doing nothing,’ but luckily if I take a big step back I can see that sure I didn’t hit my hydration, reading, or workout goals..BUT I stayed gainfully employed and accomplished much at work; I listened to my spouse after work, and made our dinners; I got some physical activity done (lawn mowed) and a couple of walks; I drank some water – not a lot, but I made conscious effort for less sodium; I didn’t read every day, but I did read some days.

I’m learning to not beat myself up, regroup, and figure out the *why *behind what went wrong. Wish me luck for next week!

    Nothing.
    And it is great.

The last weeks, no months .. no years, I feel like there was always something going on. Lots of tasks and stress at work, many private stuff. Even small things like a visit, meeting someone, going to an event.
    It was too much.

After a rather exhausting and frustrating work week, I decided to take almost 3 weeks off (thanks Easter), and I did literally nothing other than fun stuff like cooking, gaming, reading, watching series and sleeping - and isolating myself with my partner at home.

Didn't feel so relaxed for a long time.
    Definitely needed that.

Just moved for the first time in a long while and remembered that I absolutely despise moving. Had to resist the overwhelming temptation to just chuck everything away and start anew rather than packing and transporting all the stuff. But now that it's over it's a huge relief, even if there are still boxes/bags everywhere.

Moving is on my list of five things I most hate to do in life. That list is (in no particular order):

      • Moving
      • Cleaning bathrooms
      • Attending weddings/funerals
      • Looking for a job
      • Being in debt

"Attending weddings/funerals" is a single line item not because of some boomer humor equivalence of marriage with death, but because they're really only important to the people involved and/or those closest to them, but you're expected to attend anyway, even though they tend to drag on interminably.

I arbitrarily chose five, but if I'd chosen six instead, "shutting up when someone above you in a corporate hierarchy says something profoundly stupid" would probably take no. 6, which probably explains why I have to look for a job as often as I do.

Ha I definitely agree with some of those. Looking for a job in this day and age is indeed ridiculous. Though I don't mind weddings too much, except being expected to dress up in fancy clothing...

One that I'd add to the list is anything landscaping related. Not gardening though, but things like digging holes, weeding, clearing brush, basically anything that's super laborious and has to be done outside when it's a zillion degrees.

Today, I'm going to a board game place to play a Game of Thrones game with a friend of mine from college and a few of his coworkers and buddies. I don't know a single thing about Game of Thrones or the game that he wants me to try out... but I'm sure it'll be fine? Honestly, I really just need a moment to step away from work and out of my apartment, so I'll take the opportunity.

I started going back to the gym this week. It's been nice to get back to getting my body moving. I'm holding out hope that I can turn it into a regular habit. I haven't been able to do it so far, but I'm sure this time will pan out.

Wild story that resolves to nothing but harmless misery:

Last week the right side of my jaw started hurting. I tend to clench my teeth, I have a crown that makes things sit slightly funny, stuff hurts as a result occasionally. My teeth are fine, not even worn weirdly, so I put up with it when it happens.

The pain comes, sticks around and gets worse. I figure I'll keep an eye on it as in the worst case scenario I have a few days to get to the dentist if it's an abscess or something, so I wait. It gets worse. And worse. And becomes the worst pain I've ever felt. I call my dentist, ask to be seen, get seated five minutes after arrival (good timing on my part).

I get a full checkup because why not, it's been two years, and they hone in on the painful area and find nothing abnormal. They see some jaw bone growth, but that happens with clenching. The dentist checks my teeth and only finds a small, remineralizing cavity, which is fine. I show him the spot on my jaw, a rough painful area, and he calls it out: the bone grew in such a way that it hit a nerve, pissing it off.

So... I have an immensely painful spot in my mouth with no injury. Surgery is an option, but I was told it might not even fix it, so all there is to do is manage pain and let the nerve desensitize. So... That's where I am.

It's wild feeling this much pain in an otherwise totally fine, fully functional mouth.

Today I finally made the time to go buy a replacement battery for our second car. We don't really have a need for a second car at the moment (wife is a stay at home mom, plus I work from home anyway), so it was very low priority. But I had a little extra money and decided it was time, lest anything bad happen with the tires or gas while the car sat. Replacement battery was $200...which is not what I was expecting. I don't remember (or keep track of) what the cost was last time I got a replacement battery, but I'm fairly certain it was in the low-to-mid 100s a few years ago. Thanks Obama! (/s). Evidently the only two types of vehicles that use that type of battery is Hondas and full-size John Deere tractors.

But anyway, got the new battery in and it started up immediately. So next steps are some much-needed break replacements and an inspection we never did because of the breaks!
