I like the direction that they're going giving the design some sort of "physicality" (not sure if that's the word I should use?) and I was really looking forward to what they'd do with an all-glass UI but this is kind of too much. I really wish they went with a more frosted glass look than the transparent glass they're doing with this redesign--something along the lines of Microsoft's fluent design.

Maybe it'll take some time getting used to, but first impressions are not good so far.

Essentially the core of Wii homebrew was built on stolen official Nintendo code (from the SDK) and stolen open source code that wasn't attributed properly. Barring the blatant theft of open source code, stealing from actual Nintendo code gives the company fuel to do takedowns of Wii homebrew. So, this whole discovery could put a lot of Wii homebrew at risk for being taken down because of it.

Today, I'm going to a board game place to play a Game of Thrones game with a friend of mine from college and a few of his coworkers and buddies. I don't know a single thing about Game of Thrones or the game that he wants me to try out... but I'm sure it'll be fine? Honestly, I really just need a moment to step away from work and out of my apartment, so I'll take the opportunity.

I started going back to the gym this week. It's been nice to get back to getting my body moving. I'm holding out hope that I can turn it into a regular habit. I haven't been able to do it so far, but I'm sure this time will pan out.

    • Pineapple (album) by Seiko Matsuda - It's definitely an oldie, but a goodie nonetheless. It's been on repeat over the past couple of weeks for me. If you can't wait to take in some of those summertime vibes and love a good ballad or two, I definitely recommend this album. Some of my favorites: P.R.E.S.E.N.T, Pineapple Island, and Lemonade no Natsu.
    • Silver Lining by Laufey - New release! Laufey's songs have always been hits for me, and this song is no exception. Her vocals in particular really shine here. If you're in a yearning mood, you should give this one a listen.
    • Back to Me (single) by The Marias - Another new release! Just released last night, actually. They've got this kind of style that really makes you feel like you're floating in the air whenever you're listening to their music (all of which I recommend, by the way). Very dreamy.

Here's my 3x3 for the week if you wanted to see a few of the other things I've been listening to outside of my picks in the list. If you've got recommendations based on my list or anything in the collage I'd love to hear it.

I've been running around work trying to take care of all sorts of things, which has been productive but also really tiring. Trying to get to all of my clients with handling all of the other projects our team is working on has me pulled every which way to make sure things are running as they should. I have a friend visiting this weekend so hopefully I'll be able to take some of the load off on my shoulders by kicking back and hanging out.

I've also been rethinking my budget and lifestyle with the... current events of the world. A lot of things I've got to plan out and get in order in fear of everything in the world blowing up, so to speak. Really not the ideal situation I wanted to find myself in just over half a year after graduating from college, but I'll make do, I hope.

Hope everyone's had a good week so far! Weekend soon!

Thanks for the post! Reading through it... yes, it looks like I was, at the very least, partially correct. Not particularly thrilled about that, but at least I know the context behind it. Clearly, barely any thought was actually put into these tariffs, but what part of this administration really has any thought behind it, anyway?

Something is telling me (and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it were true) that there's some misrepresentation or misappropriation of information in that tariff chart that isn't telling the full story of what these countries are "charging" us... I'm prepared to be told I'm wrong, but that's just my gut feeling.

Honest to god, I'm surprised some of these countries were even significantly trading with us to begin with, let alone "charging" tariffs at all.

Much appreciated! I think that all of what you've noted definitely still applies even after two decades.

All in all, I've always believed that if you're going to survive in this sort of field--or in any tech field, frankly--you've got to have some sort of passion and genuine interest in what you're doing. So I've always taken every opportunity in this job to learn something or at least get some sort of enjoyment out of it... even in the most tiring moments. I'll have to keep this list on hand for the future!

Once you start pirating, it’s hard to ever go back to streaming services. I’ve been running a traditional Jellyfin instance for well over half a year now, and I’ve not once considered going back to Max, Hulu, or any of those services since—not that they offer any incentive to want to go back, anyway, no thanks to password sharing crackdowns and price increases because “fuck you, that’s why”.

Once your wife starts getting the hang of it, I’m sure she’ll find it more convenient than pulling up a streaming service. I mean, the idea of having everything in one place without having to look everywhere else is probably good enough to drop everything all at once… at least for me haha.

Although I will say, having an actual family sharing system now makes it a whole lot easier to share games compared to what we have right now...

It's fun! admittedly I don't keep up with it all the time... but I like being able to log everything and have a list of what I watched, what I liked, and what I plan on starting. It's also easier to just send someone a list rather than having to come up with shows or movies I've watched off the top of my head.

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

    hi!

How long have you been on Tildes? How did you find out about us?
I found out about Tildes literally last night... so probably a little over 12 hours ago? I actually stumbled upon this looking at a thread on a Reddit alternative (lemmy) about Reddit alternatives. I did some digging around and figured I jived with the website's philosophy and values, so I registered for an account as soon as I could find an invite (thank you to the mod that runs the invite megathread on the tildes subreddit, by the way).

How did you choose your username?
My username is a shortened version of my (usual) online persona bkburo, which itself is a shortened version of bukuburo. There's really no further meaning to the name other than it was what I named my Animal Crossing island and I liked the way it looked and sounded, so I adopted it as my online identity.

    What are your interests?
A lot of just simple media consumption stuff--TV shows (here's my trakt, and my anilist), movies (here's my letterboxd), video games (here's my backloggd), books sometimes (I have a storygraph but it's not as fleshed out as the others lol), and music. Outside of that, it's mainly just browsing the web, watching YouTube videos, all that stuff.

I have a strong interest in tech and love computers, phones, all that jazz. I'm

    A/S/L (age/(gender|pronouns|identifier)/location)
22, male (he/him), Texas. Please don't get at me from where I'm from, I promise I'm not a fascist.

What do you do? This could be in your spare time, for work, your passions.
I graduated relatively recently and am now working IT for my alma mater. Mostly just customer support, fixing people's internet and computers and other typical help desk stuff, but trying to branch out into sysadmin stuff... hopefully. If you work in IT and have any career advice I'd love to connect and hear what you have to offer!

Everything I do in my spare time just comes back to my interests. I'm trying to volunteer my time and do some more "meaningful" things, but still figuring all of that out.

Do you want other users to PM/DM you from this thread?
Yes, please do! I'd love to get familiar with new people on a new site.

Give us a fun fact (or a link!)! If there is anything to know about tilderinos, it's that we value knowledge sharing!
I don't have much to share unfortunately, but please take this video of Masayoshi Takanaka playing the guitar. It is one of my favorite videos at the moment.
