I don't care to sound harsh honestly as it's quite a few weeks that new users join and clearly didn't even ever read the manifesto of tildes.

An unfortunate side-effect of the default sorting is by replying, you're bumping the thread, drawing more attention to it. Effectively, supporting it by pushing it to the front of everyone's attention.
In this case, the only winning move is not to play, simply ignore the content you don't want to see, but then you've got this problem with "by not opposing it, you support it." If new users are posting things the userbase doesn't want, and the worst they encounter is relative silence, how are they to know what the userbase expects in terms of minimum quality level?
We've been playing everything by ear so far, passing along our goals and ideals for the site by spoken tradition. This clearly isn't sustainable, but right now it's all we've got. Right now the only guidance for new users is docs.tildes.net, but it's not super obvious that users should read any of that.
I mean, I get where you're coming from, but at the same time, I think in this site's current state a little gatekeeping is warranted while we all get our footing and figure out what we want the site to be about.

I don't know how Tildes prioritizes quality content through any kind of mechanics design or organization. There isn't even an ability to downvote irrelevant discussion, nor does there appear to be any kind of moderation preventing low effort content (hence my post is still up despite people complaining about it). Most the stuff I've read about that stuff sounds more like an unrealistic wish list than an actual description of this site's capabilities and functions.
Of course it's a wish list - this site is still very much a work in progress. It has only the barest minimum of features to be able to function. That's why it's an invitation-only alpha-testing...
Of course it's a wish list - this site is still very much a work in progress. It has only the barest minimum of features to be able to function. That's why it's an invitation-only alpha-testing site at the moment.
However, even though the mechanisms might not be in place yet to enforce high-quality content and discussion, that doesn't mean we can have policies and practices in place to encourage these things and to discourage low-quality content and discussion.
This website will remain another generic backwater until it has more infrastructure in place to support its ideas. I'm holding out on participating again until I see something else implemented.

Mechanics like that won't even work while the site is this small. We really don't need insanely complicated mechanics intended to deal with massive scale/volume issues when almost all groups on the site aren't even getting 5 topics a day yet. It's not like the site is getting flooded with low-quality content, because it's not getting flooded with anything.
I just meant that the current state of things is pretty unappealing to me. You've got a community here, but the handful of prominent commenters here don't seem like people I want to socialize with...
I just meant that the current state of things is pretty unappealing to me. You've got a community here, but the handful of prominent commenters here don't seem like people I want to socialize with when I'm browsing the internet. So I haven't managed to find a place here or a utility for this website, and I probably won't until there's other people posting more different kinds of things.
Where's the potential for high-quality discussion in "who's up?" At least those other posts are asking something concrete: you can discuss what people are looking forward to, or bond over finding...
How is this any lower quality than "What are you looking forward to right now?" or "Where are you from?"
Where's the potential for high-quality discussion in "who's up?" At least those other posts are asking something concrete: you can discuss what people are looking forward to, or bond over finding out there are other people from your country.
This post was just tossed out into the ether because someone was bored and wanted company.
Look around: the most in-depth discussion happening in this thread is the meta-discussion about the quality of posts we want on Tildes. The post itself brought nothing to the table, and has provided no substantive discussion whatsoever.

Not to mention, I'm unsure what you expect from the ~talk section. Should it be restricted to serious conversation only? Perhaps we could add an IQ test which you must score a certain level to be allowed to post.
I disagree with the gatekeeping, but while it is invite-only, and takes someone to use a limited invite on you, reading the manifesto is quite literally the least you could do.

oh wow, we're international out here. That's super cool. I have a couple online friends from Australia, they're all pretty chill. Love the accent, too.

Both are very different from eachother (Municipal Waste is thrash metal, HANL is more shoegaze-y) and very different from your taste I think. I heard peep is dope btu I haven't heard any of his stuff yet. I bump some X but not a ton. My brother is really into him so it's kind of rubbed off on me lol. I want to listen to some more x too since he recently died. If you have any pepp suggestions feel free to drop me some, im not busy rn or most nights usually.
Today was nice, except I've got a sniffle. Was supposed to work 3 hours but I volunteered to stay a 4th since we were slammed (Pizza Hut on a friday night, eek). But that worked out because I got...

Post might not be high quality, but let's target the content and not the user.
This place shouldn't be invite only for much longer. Gatekeeping is not the answer. If you don't like the content then don't support it

How is this post contrary to the spirit of the site?

Here's a high-level document outlining the future intentions for the site.

I'm up. But, then again, it is only mid-afternoon here in Australia. :P
Early morning in Ireland. Say hello to all our lads below, will you.

They don't call it the world-wide web for nothing! :P

Not sad, but up. Wish I were asleep right now.
What's the time for you? Sometimes I have struggles sleeping so I have to take some melatonin, idk if that works for you but i'D highly suggest it.
