What did you do this weekend?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their weekend. Did you make any plans? Take a trip? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
Helped a friend and her partner move on Saturday and it was not a great experience! Very stressful. Their apartment was horrible to move out of - three floors with the exit on the bottom floor, including a terrible narrow corner staircase with the steepest stairs I have ever seen. And of course no railing. My calves still hurt.
They weren't very well prepared either, which was frustrating. Tense vibes almost the entire time relating to the, uh... asymmetric effort between the volunteers and the actual people moving. Drove me crazy - one kept getting sidetracked doing non-urgent "admin" stuff, which I hope was just accidentally inconsiderate rather than intentionally avoiding physical labour, and the other kept putting "fragile" stuff aside, causing confusion and generally slowing things down. I get being anxious about fragile stuff, but it was mostly an issue because the stuff in question was packed so poorly!
I'm sure I'll get over it, these friends are a bit on the younger side, but man I'm thinking twice the next time anyone asks me to help them move ever again. My knees can no longer take it anyway.
This just gave me very bad memories of a friend who asked me to help him move. I showed up at his apartment on moving day and not only had he not even begun to pack, he hadn't cleaned his apartment in what looked like years.
Ugh! Yeah, you can only ask so much from a person. Moving is strenuous work in the best circumstances, I have no idea what I'd do if I showed up and literally nothing was done.
They had at least tried, kind of. They just didn't do a good job, lots of packing in random stuff they had around the house. Lots of open-topped, fragile containers and stuff in cupboards and pantries getting missed.
At least the Sacred tradition of feeding your volunteers was maintained (tons and tons of samosas).
We spent two nights camping on the lake in the travel trailer with the three dogs. A different friend joined us each night. The puppy did great in the canoe, although she was not a fan of swimming. I think that'll be different once it starts to get really hot out, though.
My partner and I also watched the first season of Ted Lasso, which I immediately fell in love with. It's such a funny, great, and wholesome show. Highly recommended if you want a break from self-deprecating/snark comedy.
Recorded my 10-minute presentation for my project management class. I reviewed it for any issues and got hit hard with that feeling many of us get when hearing ourselves, and can't shake the thought I sound kinda like Kermit the Frog. I also spent like 30 minutes trying to get Zoom to record right so I could do it properly. When the project was assigned my group were all scared we couldn't make the time, and a group member actually had 20 minutes of material for an 8-10 minute presentation.
My son had an ROV competition in Savannah, GA this weekend, so we took our first post-vaccination trip there. Unfortunately due to COVID rules we weren't able to actually watch the competition, but his team came in second. He was the CEO of the team and I'm very proud of all the work and hours he put into it. He's only 11 but I hope he stays interested in competitions like this.
ROV = Remotely operated underwater vehicle? I had no idea there were competitions involving them. That looks pretty cool though!
Yep, exactly. This is his second year doing it, however the competitions were cancelled last year due to COVID. He really enjoys it, enough so that his grandparents just bought him his own ROV to use in our pool. I think it's great to see schools branching out from the traditional sporting competitions.
I met and instantly fell in love with an amazing Tinder date and I'm sitting here half worried that it will turn out like the last person I fell in love with but entirely unable to stop myself from being swept away with the feeling of wanting to rent a uhaul RIGHT NOW gosh I'm so hopeless at times
Aww, those can be the best and worst dates. I hope they feel the same way about you!
What did you do for your date? I’ve been monogamously partnered for going on five years, but I love first dates (even the awkward/weird/rude ones because they made for such good storytelling).
They do, but that's the problem. That's how it was with my last whirlwind 'summer romance'. Everything was perfect until it ended just as abruptly as it started. It took me the better part of a year to get over it, because there were no red flags. We talked incredibly openly and shared deeply personal things, but apparently despite their words and honesty in everything else, I just either wasn't as important to them as they thought I was until things came down to the wire, or they were the most impressive liar I've ever met.
We went to a beer garden and sat outside and talked for about two hours before heading back to my place. Things progressed quite rapidly from there and she's now one of two (I think it's only two) people who've made me cry in bed during sexy times by saying some of the sweetest things I've ever heard.
When you joke about who's going to get the uhaul in bed after having fun and it's received well, it feels like things are pretty safe. I just hope it ends up that way.
My partner and I talked about 401(k)s on our first date, ahaha. I know what you mean about things starting really well and ending very poorly. That happened in one of my relationships prior to this one, and it left me jaded for at least a few years.
Best of luck to you and her! :)
I beat the remastered version of Destroy All Humans. I'd actually been playing through the original before that and nearly beat that as-well. It's a well done remaster that actually includes a fair number of gameplay changes/improvements which I wasn't expecting.
I went to a cat cafe!
It was very expensive to get in ($20) and wasn't actually a cafe in any sense of the word (no food or drink was available), but it was fun. And because they weren't terribly busy for some reason, they let us stay longer than their time limit. My fiance is not an animal person but I dragged him in there and of course he ended up being the one person who got a cat to sit on his lap. Twice even! One day I will weaken his defenses enough so that we can get our own pet.
Of course, the place was also a cat rescue, so the cats were not the ideal come-up-and-cuddle types. Some of them were very territorial and some of them even would bite you (warning bites, not attack bites). Some of them had some very obvious signs of abuse, such as one white cat that had it's fur dyed and another that had been completely shaved. I made sure to give them as much love as they could handle.
I'm in the basically did nothing at all. Did a little birthday shopping for myself and otherwise just chilled at home.
