Even if this delayed launch is to comply with European law, I don't trust them to do it properly, either accidentally or just because they'll try to skirt it best they can.
As the one counterpoint is that it may successfully kill Xwitter, or fracture it enough we can continue the trend of news outlets ditching copy-pasting Twitter feeds and call it "news".
I'm more curious when their federation will be available. As much as I can see why most Mastodon-instances will block them, on a general level I feel the more federation-capability, the better.

How will this federation work in practise? Bluesky is going to federate; Threads is going to federate. Will I be able to view Threads' "tweets" from Bluesky and vice-versa?

Oh, all this time I thought Bluesky was going to federate with Mastodon. So what is Bluesky going to federate with? Is there nothing right now and they are just hoping other services will start...

Bluesky is using the AT protocol https://blueskyweb.xyz/blog/10-18-2022-the-at-protocol Pretty much yes. I am not even sure you can federate with bluesky yet. I think they will open that up later...

Pretty much yes. I am not even sure you can federate with bluesky yet. I think they will open that up later and then you can start up a "bluesky" server and federate with the main one. Or you can build your own application as well of course.

I created a new twitter account to reserve a handle for a project and the default feed was hate, Elon, SpaceX, and conspiracy theories. Twitter's recommended follows were 1. Andrew Tate 2. Elon 3. Joe Biden 4. Jordan Peterson

No, those are two different networks. Bluesky doesn't use the same protocol as mastodon, which is the one Threads is gonna be using.

In theory, sure. Depends on whether they accept federation from the other instance or block them.
