[SOLVED] Requesting help for Android Auto troubleshooting assistance
I have a Moto G 5G 2023 and 2025 Chevy Trax that I'm trying to troubleshoot why Android Auto cannot last more than 10 minutes without crashing out and needing to either wait for the connection to be available again, or unplug and replug the USB cord to get it to reconnect. Sometimes it goes for an extended period of time, and sometimes it won't last for longer than a minute before it crashes with no visible error on the phone. I think it might be something in RAM, but more often than not it's when Google Maps is up, with Audible in the background and I'm not sure if it's one of those or possibly my Launcher or having the three buttons turned on for my phone, or some weird esoteric thing.
Most of my problems with Android Auto have been due to poor quality or worn out cables. I would first try a new USB3 spec cable (shielded with a decent jacket) before going crazy with the software.
Make sure you have all the system and app updates as well.
Seconding this, it's really surprising how good of a cable you need for Android Auto to work properly. This will probably solve the problems.
Update, between a map cache clear and operating wireless this morning, there wasn't an issue with my morning drive, so I'm willing to call this solved for now and to look into a new cable. Thank you all!
I doubt this is it, but does Android Auto have all the necessary permissions it needs to run? I had an issue with another app that would crash without reason, and once I manually enabled all the permissions it wanted, then it ran just fine. I think that was due to the app being for an older version of Android though, so it would crash when trying to request the permissions it wanted.
I'm referring to: Settings > Apps > See all [xxx] apps > Android Auto > Permissions
But on the whole, I agree with the others that it feels like connectivity more than system stability. Have you tried other USB cables and/or other USB ports?
Are you able to connect via Bluetooth? I haven't tried USB connections myself but it's behaved reasonably enough for me over wireless.
Not sure if your car supports it natively over Bluetooth but you could try something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-CarPlay-Adapter-Upgraded-Android/dp/B0DY1Z1FHJ
(Not familiar with this exact product, just an example)
A friend of mine has something similar and it helped him with connection issues through the cord. It also worked faster for him. Worth a shot and you could always return it if it doesn't work any better.
