If the email addresses are always at some relay domain I can see a lot of services blocking it like they do mailinator. It would be awesome if there were support for custom domain names.

While the production version is still being tested, they give instructions for how to set up your own Private Relay server on their github. Since you can put this on whatever server you want, technically it already supports custom domain names. It's just a little work.

I'm super excited that we're doing this! I've been wanting to sign up for such a service for a long time. Knowing that it's Mozilla doing it, I trust that it's going to be done the Right Way™

Maybe I'm missing it, but does it only allow a single email to go through? How does password recovery work at that point? edit: From the add-on page.

    edit:

Private Relay adds UI to generate unique, random, anonymous email addresses that forward to your real address. You can use your relay addresses to sign up for apps, sites, or newsletters. When you're done with that service, you can disable or destroy the email address so you'll never receive any more emails from it. And, if the service has an incident, their data won't be linked back to you.

    • From the add-on page.

That seems to imply that you can decide when to disable them yourself. However, I am curious how long Mozilla will let the addresses remain active, and it doesn't appear to be stated anywhere that I can see. Clicking on "Legal" at the bottom of this page just leads to a nonexistent anchor, and the "Support site" link on the addon page just leads back to this landing page.

The email addresses are randomly assigned and simply forwarding mail is pretty cheap. They should be active indefinitely. Also, the reason the site seems incomplete is because I am pretty sure...

Also, the reason the site seems incomplete is because I am pretty sure they weren't ready to announce this yet and someone just happened to stumble on it.

A blog post from Apr 2019 said first 10 generated mails will be free. After login it says 'choose a plan' before generating your first mail. Do you know of a way to test sub 10 mails longer than the 7 days they give you to test out any plan you choose? Thanks for telling me this exists already btw!

I managed to use it for free for a while without payments, I’m a bit shocked it’s asking for details straiht up. Maybe try contacting the guy behind the website? Edit: I think I chose the $1/month...

Edit: I think I chose the $1/month before upgrading. Wasn’t exactly expensive.

I usually use 10minutemail, though it tends to get blocked at some sites. But this is great, I'm glad the big guys are doing this
