July 2023 Tildes Fundraiser
Enshittification: begone!! Let us celebrate our newly found freedom from crap social media giants and sponsored goons by donating a few dollars to Tildes so they can keep the lights on and the fireworks popping 🎉
Worth noting is that today is the last day to reach @talklittle (and @Bauke’s) previous fundraiser 500 recurring donor goal. We’re currently at 390 donors between GitHub Sponsors and Patreon, so we only need 110 more for talklittle’s “Three Cheers for Tildes” Android/iOS app alpha to be released a month sooner, and a reincarnation of Bauke’s Tildes Issue Log as a Tildes Community Log for monthly updates about the most interesting posts and related happenings in the community.
p.s. For those unaware, talklittle is the reddit is fun/rif is fun dev. And Bauke is the dev behind Tildes Statistics, Tildes ReExtended, Tildes Shepherd, and Re-Nav.
Thanks for the reminder to pledge some monthly funds to keeping this site running!
In my (almost) month here it has become one of the first sites I check for news and discussion. It reminds me a lot of the early days of reddit and what was lost along the way to where that site is today. Longer form conversation is definitely where I feel most at home and Tildes and the people here are fostering that type of atmosphere.
397 recurring donors now. 103 left to reach the goals.
Make that 398 now; the old forum feeling is hard to find today.
401413420 heh now, probably not gonna make 500 before midnight. But maybe we can convince @talklittle and @Bauke to consider that "close enough"? :PI'm down for giving it another month on account that the user count graph has yet to slow down. :D
To everyone exhausted and angered by the profitability tantrums that Reddit, Twitter, Netflix, Youtube and many more are throwing this summer: put your money where your mouth is. If you value independent niche communities on the internet, a small donation (a bigger one if you can afford it) is what it takes to keep places like Tilde running ad/investor-free.
@Demios you should let us know what kind of goals you'd like to have for the next steps to take place, whatever those are. I know you are swamped, but at least it's in the 'nice problem to have' category. :)
@Deimos Amarok pinged you in the comment above, but accidental typo in your name.
Drat.
It's not much, but it's recurring. Via Patreon.
When money allows, I'll increase.
I hate Patreon but I don't have the time to setup a GitHub thing so Patreon it is haha, at least for now
Off topic, but why do you hate Patreon? I also have to decide which of both services to use to donate, so I may as well ask.
They've made a history of wildly inconsistent policy enforcement as well as continually being anti-creator. They also just take a ridiculous percentage of the donations for what is basically just a payment processing coordinator.
