If I understand this correctly, they can know who invited them (by email, or username, or both? or none?)—but the person who invited them cannot know either?
A record of which users you invite will be kept internally (but won't be visible to any users, including you). Please invite people that you think will be good community members—if you repeatedly invite users that cause issues, you may lose inviting privileges.

If you never got an invite... how did you create a Tildes account? This is an invite-only website. People must have an invite code to create an account here.

Or maybe I'm some sort of God-tier hacker! Who can say? I hacked the site by reversing the polarity of the Ascii hyperlink port by applying a machine learning-based COBOL Lagrangian.

That’s actually a feature I like. It allows invitees the ability to stay anonymous if they wish.
I take what you've quoted to mean that people you invite don't know who invited them.
I never got an invite, I just emailed the account request email!

Sorry if it went over your head. Really, it's not all that complicated. What I did was quite simple, just like putting too much air in a balloon!
And extra credit for thinking up the nightmare that would be a COBOL ML model XD
Do I? Am I actually as smart as you seem to think I might be?
Hmm...I know this one. There's one of you who always tells the truth, and there's one who always lies...
And one makes you larger, one makes you small, and the ones that mother gives you don’t do anything at all…
And the doctor was the mother! Also the horse was named Friday.
