We have actually talked about this a lot... AFAIK @deimos' plan is to give people at least two options in this regard:
Full account deletion - completely removes everything
(username, user history, comments, submissions, etc)
Full account dissociation - completely removes only their username from everything
(so the substance of their contributions remains but is stripped of identifying information)
As well as selective deletion and dissociation of specific comments/submissions.
This system allows for users who wish to completely remove themselves and their contributions from the site to do so, but also allows for users who do not wish to "break" the older topics/comments sections to still delete their identity from all their contributions.
Unless the content of the contributions contains identifying information, right? It's not like Deimos can just check every post and comment to see if you posted your home address or full name

Yes, I imagine so... If someone wanted to dissociate their account but had made comments or self-text topics with personally identifying information in them then it will be up to them to locate...

What do you want deleted? The ability to log in? All the posts? Just perge your username from the post? I think more details are needed in what you consider a deleted account. Personally I don't...

Personally I don't want to see a account and all posts deleted that just leads to a bunch of messes up threads. Probably on the technical side with child parent posts and in just reading.
While it's true that deleted accounts can "ruin" posts, is it better to prioritize the quality of a, presumably, old discussion over the request of a user? Plus, if a user really wants to delete...

Plus, if a user really wants to delete their account somebody will eventually make one of those scripts you see on reddit that goes through your account and edits everything.
I agree with you. Perhaps deleting the username but leaving the comment intact? Nothing worse than seeing a huge thread, with great responses, and one of the top comments is just [deleted]. If it...

Of course, there would need to be a "nuclear" option in the event of doxing or cyber stalking of some sort. But I'm sure that could already be done if needed.

ooh this is how I was hoping it would be implemented, this site is very promising
Selective deletion in itself it a cool idea. Like, wipe all of my history from ~comp.

I can delete your account for you. Should I take this as a request?
Does that mean the current process is to send you a private message?
Sure, or email.
