Need help formatting on Tildes
I have just posted on ~sports the last results of the major European soccer leagues, but it does not show as I'd want to. I read the Formatting help page, but I did not find an aswer to my question, so if someone would like to help I'd appreciate it.
Basically I would like the post to look like this: Imgur link, but in the end it looks like the spaces I put in there do not show as you can see here: Imgur link.
Is there any way to make the post looks like what I want? I read about the Tables section in the Formatting help page, but I do not need a bold header row, which looks like a requirement for a table.
Thanks in advance for the help
You can make a table. Just put nothing in the header row if you don't want headings. (But I don't see why you don't.)
This:
Will produce this:
Alternatively, you could have headings:
Sorry to be pedantic but the rightmost columns (in both your examples) are right-aligned - so shouldn't the 2nd line (that indicates the alignment) be:
Your example shows (note the 2nd line)
which gets rendered as left-aligned:
Oops! That's a typo on my part in the formatting row. I've corrected the alignments.
Thanks.
You are right, it does looks nice. In the Formatting help page a table does not look as good as it actually is.
Thank you for your help and for your time.
edit: does the 5 "-" you put in the middle column are required to be 5? If I put 3 "-" instead does it change anything?
Just so you're aware, you accidentally made a new "top-level" comment, not a reply to Algernon's comment. ;)
p.s. While I appreciate your efforts in posting those weekly league results... it's a bit spammy to do them all at once like that. You may want to combine them all in to one megapost instead of submitting them all as individual topics.... at least while Tildes is this small and relatively inactive, anyways.
Honest mistake, that's what a long day and lack of sleep make you do. Thank you for poiting that out
I will make a single tread the next time
Thanks for doing this, by the way! Combining them into one thread would still be a good idea, at least at the current activity level.
First, you've replied to your own topic rather than to my comment.
Second, the 5 "-" in the middle column make it wider (the number of dashes is the width of the column). This spaces out the table and makes it more readable. However, if you want to use fewer dashes, you can.
Third, if you want to test formatting to see what it looks like for real, you can use ~test.
Sorry about that, I misclicked. That's what a long day and lack of sleep make you do.
Ok, got it. Thank you again for you answers.
