Discovering Tildes through Reddit could use some help

People who are discovering Tildes through its sub, r/Tildes, may be confused if they are viewing it with the 'redesign' as opposed to the 'classic' Reddit.

If someone was viewing the sidebar of the Tildes sub with the 'classic' Reddit, then they would see this.

I'm happy to do some housekeeping on the redesign side @deimos (old site ftw by the way) if you'd like. Definitely should reach over there since a lot more users are converting to redesign now....

Definitely should reach over there since a lot more users are converting to redesign now. (here's some data on one of my subreddits). Redesign styles also apply to mobile which has an absurd amount of share on the traffic graph.

I absolutely despise the ugly, bloated, sluggish redesign and refuse to use it (even going so far as use Old Reddit Redirect to ensure I never, ever have to see it, even when logged out ;)... and I'm pretty sure that sentiment is shared by the other /r/tildes mods. So that's why we haven't really put any effort whatsoever into making /r/tildes redesign friendly.

And TBH I am completely disenchanted with reddit as a whole, so these days the only time I spend there is handling invite threads then immediately leaving it again... which is why I haven't put much time/effort into beautifying even old.reddit /r/tildes either, despite being quite familiar with reddit's CSS system (I'm the "created by [deleted]" there ;).

However I am certainly not opposed to making /r/tildes more bootiful and redesign friendly, and would welcome the help. So if @deimos gives the thumbs up, I can make you (and anyone else with modding/reddit stylesheet experience) a mod there if they want to assist us.

Maybe just adding a button widget (or whatever it is called in that redesigh) with More Info leading to https://old.reddit.com/r/tildes/new/ would be more than sufficient. What a familiar feeling!

I've been a mod for over three years and have CSS experience. I'd be happy to help out at r/tildes.

I don't really think pushing recruitment from Reddit is a good goal to have... Reddit has Reddit users in it.

I believe a few of the so-called "power users" come from Hacker News, but... yes... most of them/us are from Reddit.

I was just about to comment something similar - scrolling through my Tildes feed, at least three recent topics are about Reddit and just how bad it is. If there is anything I learned after years of using Reddit alternatives, it's that some users love to remind themselves and others that they are members of an elite club and are somehow better than the users of the more mainstream platforms.

If I learned anything is that approximately the same amount of users love to bitch about this exact thing so here we are.

Starting with a small group of hand-picked individuals and then letting new users trickle in is a solid way to avoid Eternal September here. However, it remains to be seen if we can maintain this after open registration starts. The special moderation features will be absolutely necessary for us to succeed.

I joined Reddit nearly a decade ago, and discovered this website through Reddit. I came to this website due to how Reddit has become not only an advertiser's haven, but a site nearly entirely consisting of either biased, inappropriate, racist, or misogynistic discussions where only the popular opinions in the specific subreddit would be upvoted and visible. It became an echo chamber. And the reason I am saying this is because I am certain many others from reddit also share this opinion and only remain on the site because there is nothing better that they know of. So having exposure on reddit in order to gather people that are tired of what the place has become is in Tildes' best interest, and to think otherwise is in my opinion very unfair and hypocritical.

I'm happy to share an echo chamber with the Monteverdi Choir. I just don't want an echo chamber with angry, yowling cats.
