Tagging users RES style
Would there be any way to tag users so people you've interected with would pop out a bit more in a thread as their name would have a teg beside them or you could tag your friends so even if you forget their name it could pop up somewhere and you'd know it.
As someone with memory issues, being able to tag users would make my life so much easier. I use RES tagging religiously to remind me who people are, or why I know them, etc.
It would also help when there are multiple people with similar-ish names. There's bound to be collisions cropping up as we get more users.
I consider this feature entirely necessary. I can not even think of using Reddit without it because I have a large library of tagged users. It cuts down on so many problems, not just for myself, but for others and the people I've tagged.
I've already had a coupe of instances on ~ where I've missed having RES, and tagging users is my number one.
Would that be site-wide or more flair-like, scoped to a particular group? I feel like both of these implementations could be useful.
I was thinking site wide personal stuff so if I tagged you with something only I could see the tag. I like the idea of flair in different tildes. Say if you know lots on tv you could put your flair as "IASIP Dead Cat Support" so people know you probably knew more than most about it.
That reminds me of internet forums I used to use, and I love the idea. Like, get to a certain level of comments or votes or whatnot and it unlocks the ability to give yourself a tag or flair.
I think this would be a really good feature, especially because it would help with knowing user's history and deciding if you think they are trustworthy.
In that vein, another feature I'd like to see make its way to ~ from RES is seeing your vote record on individual users. Here it could also include the tag record perhaps. I know on reddit there are users with usernames I don't recognize, but I have upvoted them dozens of times. Knowing that someone produces good posts/comments even if you don't recognize the name could be helpful. Plus with tag tracking, if you have voted them many times but the tags show it's mostly for jokes, you would know much more about the type of user they are.
