Car maintenance suggestions/guide for a 2016 Lexus IS 350F Sport

Hello,

I am thinking of perhaps purchasing the vehicle mentioned in my title, is there recommended maintenance suggestions that should be done other than what can be found in Lexus's car care recommendations or something that would be found in the drivers manual? Anything unusual to watch out for? Any particular brand of motor oil that would be best? etc.

Thanks

It’s a toyota. Change the fluids once in a while and it will last forever.

I do not have the car in question, but have owned scions and now a Lexus (2021 350 F Sport). Further while I learned how to work on cars a bit with my dad, I haven't really had the time/drive to do even the simple work in a long time, so in short, grain of salt with all this.

That said, the reason I've stuck with toyota and their sub brands is because they've been pretty low maintenance and bullet proof. The recommendations cover most of everything you need to know, and if you follow them/take it it for those things to be done you're mostly good.

Since i'm assuming with the cars age you're going to be WELLLL outside of any warranty, i would make sure you look everything over carefully or have someone do so for you.

Some important ones that come to mind:

    1. Timing belt goes at about 90k miles, so keep that in mind. If it's over that make sure it's been changed, and if it's near that/hasn't been, make sure you ask for that off the cost of the car. Expensive repair usually.

    2. Transmission/transmission fluid is another one to check as people will often neglect it over the life of the car, and again it's a major pain in the ass to fix/have fixed.

    3. My water pump just had to be replaced, and early enough that it was still fully covered, so not sure if I just got unlucky, but worth mentioning.

Thanks for all the tips, the one I'm looking at has 50k miles. As for transmission, is the fluid itself also something that's expensive? Or do people neglect to have transmission fluid replaced?

Replacing the fluid can be pricey but yeah people tend to skip or forget and it’s obviously more expensive if the whole thing dies

Maybe Toyota has those for their cars.

For free at you local library or for a pittance at The Consumer Report's site you can likely find reviews about that car and descriptions of any problems with that model.

As always, before you buy the car, have it inspected by an independent mechanic before you buy it. If the owners will not allow such an inspection buy a car from someone else.
