Honestly, I seem to be pretty gifted at mostly any genre of video game, so I can't really relate to the plebs on this thread.

Jokes aside, I definitely think I just have way more patience/tenacity than the average person. If people get frusturated/annoyed at a game, I usually want to beat it just to show it can be done, and I'm usually having fun the whole way through. Sekiros final boss has been mentioned many times here, and it took myself a whole weekend to beat it myself, but I enjoyed essentially every minute of it and the process of getting better was thoroughly enjoyable.

I think if there is one genre of video games I definitely suck at is fighting games, I never really had the chance to play them as a kid when I was younger, save for a Tekken 2 demo disc that was on the PS1.

Nowadays I exclusively play single player games, but FPS, card games, auto-chess, mostly any thing that had a competitive bracket, I would usually rank semi-decently without too much effort (save for league of legends, it took me 3 years to get to Gold)

Small aside, a game that I can consider myself terrible at is Horizon Zero Dawn. I'm just NOT able to play that game. I've tried starting a fresh save file 4 different times and I just find it soooo boring, so I guess that is one game I do suck at, including the aforementioned fighting game genre.

Thought this was a really cool website, which shows homes that were shipped by Sears. Due to poor record keeping at the time I guess, there is no official count from Sears for exact number of homes shipped and sold, but these individuals maintaining the site have been trying to collect all data related to these homes. Thought I'd share for fun.

I definitely felt the same way reading that as you most likely did. I don't think I'd consider the site a failure by any means, but it seems a tad discouraging that Deimos feels like it's no longer worth working the project either. At the same time, I am an extremely unimaginative person and I don't know what I would change myself. I think the only thing that would really help discussion personally is image uploading for posts and comments, but I imagine that would be a huge cost increase in terms of hosting as well.

Their add-ons don't seem ridiculously priced either, but I just briefly skimmed through them.

The $10 Breath of the Wild upgrade for the switch 2 is so worth it. 4k graphics, 120fps, and other things!

DLSS is excellent however and I doubt anyone can tell the difference at this point.

For people like you that are outside of the US, one of the things that tends to get lost in the conversation literally just how physically big the US actually is.

I actually may be one of the few people who do understand this, because I live in one of the few countries that are physically bigger than the US lol.

I do understand that there is a relatively remote population of American citizens that live in their towns/villages with not a care in the world (exaggerating to prove a point), but don't the vast majority of Americans live on the East or West coast?

I think it all comes down to the fact that 99% of one's life is not political.

In theory, I would strongly agree with you. Personally, I'm not a fan of political discourse in person or on-line because most of the time, it's a waste of time and most people don't have the humility or grace to admit they're wrong or that their mind has been changed, so what was the point of stirring everyone's emotions and potentially losing a relationship out of it?

On the other hand, I think politics are almost engrained in everything you do. From the food you purchase, to the family you interact with, to where you want to travel, to the medicine you consume etc. And most likely, you want to interact with people who have a large degree of overlap with your own political world views as well. I know for sure I have lessened communications with family members based on their own beliefs (such as an immediate family member believing vaccines are a scam).

Now, I'm not saying that these things will change your day to day life, I'm just saying that a lot of choices people tend to make are political to some extent, as minor as they are.

I'm not sure; you tell me what kind of message does that send? That goes for pretty much all social media, and reddit is still one of the lesser offenders.

As far as I'm concerned reddit is an utter cesspool and I wouldn't trust anything I read there.

This post is mostly going to be incoherent rambling, but I hope this does make some sense and gains engagement from my other fellow Tildes users on here.

I, like many others, participated in the Reddit exodus to a degree after the API changes some years ago. I've been using tildes semi-regularly ever since, but I still frequent Reddit just as much as I used to (however, being much less active in terms of commenting/posting) simply due to the sheer size of the user base.

Of course, since January 20th 2025 (the beginning of Trumps second term), the world has definitely seemed to be in an increasingly state of turmoil ever since. De Minimis exception rules, non-stop changes on tariffs to different countries, the war in Iran, capturing the Venezuelan president (for better or for worse), trying to unite the Western hemisphere under the American flag, unveiling of the Epstein files, Isreal still attempting to ethnically cleanse Gaza, and countless other disputes that have been ongoing such as Russia v. Ukraine, China v. Taiwan, etc.

None of this is relatively good news, nor am I really a fan of any of these actions above, save for perhaps capturing Maduro.

Whenever I scroll through r/worldnews or r/news, it just seems that present day society is literally going on the brink of collapse. I'm just wondering, am I in the wrong to think that most people are living their lives the way they always have, and just hope for the best and they stay relatively unaffected?

I am someone who travels to the US semi-regularly, and if I were to take the word of the average redditor on there, I would safely assume that I am about to be shot on sight by ICE or be captured and waterboarded (slight exaggeration, I hope). And yet when I arrive, people are living their life the way they always have. Perhaps there is a tad more mistrust between citizens, and perhaps a bit more individuals feel more free to be openly racist (these are all assumptions, not stating them as fact), but everything is mostly just functioning the way it always has.

My question is, should I be more on the side that there is going to be significant political and economic reform in the world, or will things play out the way they always have for the 21st century, where everything gets, very slowly, shittier by the day, but things remain decent enough to quell the suggestion of a civil war?

Thanks for reading anyone, and appreciate any thoughts on the subject.

P.S I have no idea how to tag this, so thanks in advance to whoever does end up tagging this post.

Seems to be a lot of user-friendly changes! I'm a big fan of the split view and tab notes features (not sure how often I'd use it however), and looking forward to trying out the smart window. Navigation improvements in settings is always nice to see as well.

That's fine, and installing a kernel driver isn't necessarily hard, but if your production process is to flash your final product with some off-the-shelf embedded Linux OS, then install your kernel driver onto the hardware, that's going to be cumbersome and error-prone at-scale.

Wow, that really helped a lot in terms of clarity. Because this will be an external facing product with consumers, I am guessing that these developers would opt to include things such as a package manager, networking, etc, correct?

I'm guessing a product like this would be super lean on resources as well right, seeing as you customized it just for the hardware, so should be slightly more performant than a typical x86 tablet/computer equivalent or something like that?

Provision your system with custom A/B partitioning.

This was the one concept I was familiar with when you were originally writing about, but it is nice to reinforce that my knowledge about it is correct!

At my job, I wrote a hook into our Yocto distro that, when we compile our OS, grabs the encryption/decryption keys out of our 1Password vaults, and encrypts the final payload, rather than making that a manual process.

That's really cool! Slightly off-topic, but how different is working embedded systems on a day to day basis compared to traditional hardware? I'm guessing you have more knowledge of low level code such as assembly? Is it something you can transition into, or something you mostly learn through schooling?

Thank you again for taking the time to explain all that!
