Wow, that was fast. Just this morning Wanda Sykes said she would not be returning to the show as a producer due to the racist tirade.
I am surprised that ABC did not know what they were getting into with Roseanne Barr. Especially given her penchant for promoting pizzagate, birtherism, and other conspiracies on Twitter. Nonetheless I think they made the right choice.
I didn’t either. Am I confusing her with someone else, or did she have a failed presidency bid with the Green Party? Have her political views evolved significantly since then?

Yes, they have. She is a huge Trump supporter now, not that that's necessarily indicative of anything. A quick glance through her Twitter feed shows that she has gone from fringe left to extreme...

A quick glance through her Twitter feed shows that she has gone from fringe left to extreme fringe right.
In early 2012, Barr announced her candidacy for the presidential nomination of the Green Party.[2] Barr lost the nomination to Jill Stein.[3] She then sought the presidential nomination of the Peace and Freedom Party, which she won on August 4, 2012.[4] Barr received 61,971 votes in the general election, placing sixth overall.[5]

Disillusionment. The past decade has caused mass shifts in peoples' faith in their respective parties and values. Just these past couple years has caused a huge amount of upheaval, and I've personally witnessed huge changes in many people I know. People jumping ship from the left to the right, the right to the left, and everything in between.

I wonder if more and more there will be some kind of contractually obligatory "censorship" on social media for actors and actresses on projects like these.
Usually those kinds of stipulations stem from large public incidents such as this. I mean having to cancel an entire show, in which hundreds of people work, because of one person's unhinged tweet...

It's a good way to get blackballed from the industry forever. If I was an executive, I wouldn't hire anyone like that in this political atmosphere without some kind of contractual "censorship" on...
It's a good way to get blackballed from the industry forever. If I was an executive, I wouldn't hire anyone like that in this political atmosphere without some kind of contractual "censorship" on social media. Like you pointed out, ABC has lost a money-making primetime show because of this.
I wonder at what point will the entire industry decide that this kind of controversy isn't worth the effort at all.
This is already a thing for the unwashed masses. If I am linked to my Employer on Facebook (I am not) and say something inappropriate that embarrasses them, they can choose to fire me. It's on a...

It's on a much larger financial scale in Hollywood, but you'd think having the spotlight shining so brightly on your "business" would make you much more careful about what you say and do.
I'd imagine she was already on thin ice, and this was a really good reason for ABC to publically wash their hands, especially as cast members said they would not be working on her show due to her...

Actually, I'm shocked that it got cancelled. I mean, what she said was seriously horrible, but that show was bringing ABC massive numbers, and I didn't think they would actually have the guts to ax it. I thought that she would apologize, they would pay some lip service to how that won't be tolerated, and by the Fall when the show came back it would all have been forgotten.

From what I understand, Disney has been making a lot of progress the past few years internally and externally trying to address social issues like racism. It would be crazy as an employee to hear in and out about what is right and expected of you at work, and then to not see a show get cancelled when something like this happened.
While I am white, had I been not been and working at ABC I would think the higher ups didn't care if they only slapped Roseanne's hand.
It seemed to make a big splash but faded out as everyone realized it's still just a TV sitcom. I wasn't watching it but I do tend to keep up on TV news and it didn't feel like it was on fire after...

Well considering she blocked me YEARS ago for calling out her transphobic comments, this makes me very happy. Of course her not getting the revival would have been preferred.

She's a terrible person who is racist, transphobic and believes that kids are being eaten by a cult that runs itself out of pizza places. If you're going to spout this type of bullshit, you should...
Yes the joke was crude, in poor taste and possibly even hateful.
But do we really want to live in a world where we effectively and near instantly hang our jesters (career) for making the wrong joke?
She's a terrible person who is racist, transphobic and believes that kids are being eaten by a cult that runs itself out of pizza places. If you're going to spout this type of bullshit, you should expect that there will be consequences.
While I feel bad that all the other people who worked on the show are now out of jobs, I have to say that I read this news with a smile. Roseanne's show back in the 80's and 90's wasn't just about...

Roseanne's show back in the 80's and 90's wasn't just about a working family, it was about a working family with a heart. I really did enjoy that show.
The show today lost its heart. Today, that show is about a viscous Trump supporter, and all that entails. For example, if Trump has a stated policy of discouraging immigrants from coming here to ask for asylum by forcibly separating parents from kids, then anything that she produces while in support of Trump is then tied irrevocably to that.
Her conduct on social media - where she was intentionally inflammatory - didn't help separate her from Trump.

Wow really? I had no idea Roseanne was off the rocker that much. TIL

I’m just curious how she went from prospective Green Party presidential candidate to promoting right wing conspiracy theories on Twitter.

This is the most level-headed, well thought out response to a political question I think I've seen in a long time. Well said.

According to the article, the revival had been a huge success. Odd that this is the first time I've heard of it in any way. Oh well.
It seemed to make a big splash but faded out as everyone realized it's still just a TV sitcom. I wasn't watching it but I do tend to keep up on TV news and it didn't feel like it was on fire after the first couple episodes.

Well, would you look at that, some people's actions do have consequences.
