TV Tuesdays Free Talk
Have you watched any TV shows recently you want to discuss? Any shows you want to recommend or are hyped about? Feel free to discuss anything here.
Please just try to provide fair warning of spoilers if you can.
They already started filming the second season. Also, they seem to be following the main plot points of the books so even if they cancel it before they get to finish the story, there is canonical source material to give you closure.
Yes very true, you can always read the books to see how it ends. But seeing how much money, marketing, etc. they are putting behind this show I don't think it will ever be cancelled. They've renewed Foundation, Invasion, etc. so if a show is half-way decent it will probably get renewed anyway.
It was excellent—it felt like I got an expectation-rug pulled from under me.
Getting a lot of value from my Apple TV sub. Finished and really enjoyed silo, currently part way through the crowded room and hijack.
I agree, Apple TV has decent content.
Have you seen their other shows?
Foundation, Severance, For All Mankind
Yes. Loved severance, really enjoyed the first two seasons of for all mankind (lost me in the third). I need to try and watch the foundation as I only got 4 episodes in and it lost me.
The first season of See was surprisingly fun. For All Mankind has been consistently under-discussed and quality. Sadly, as a fan of the Foundation books, I did not end up enjoying the show the further it went. The visuals are top notch, but the writing overall is the weakest point.
Been enjoying a few shows dropping new episodes lately such as...
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia : New season dropped a few weeks back and still as solid as ever with the gang's wacky shenanigans.
Platonic : A comedy about 2 platonic friends (Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen) that reconnect later in life. So far, pretty unique situations and entertaining. Been digging this one a lot.
Hiajck : Takes place during an airplane hijack and is pretty intriguing, generally an edge of your seat watch. Enjoying Idris Elba as always, but curious to how they will keep the suspense for a full season of episodes. So far so good though.
The Idol : A drama about a fictional pop star returning into the spotlight after a hectic year away. Only watched a few out of all released so far, but seems pretty raw/real look into the industry that it can be kind of hard to watch. Great performances though and good singing, they made a pretty catchy song for the show too.
The Righteous Gemstones : Pretty okay so far. Definitely enjoyed the previous 2 seasons a lot more, but still has all the over the top evangelical funniness you'd expect.
The Witcher : First half of the newest season dropped and as someone who hasn't played the games, I still generally enjoy the high fantasy show. Geralt is as charming and brooding as ever. Wish they went into more details about the recently discovered reasons for the antagonists though.
Star Trek Strange New Worlds : Just some classic Star Trek adventures. Each episode has been pretty unique from the others of the season, so that has been interesting.
Got Paramount recently to watch Star Trek shows and boy is there a lot of them.
I’ve seen all the episodes of Strange New Worlds and I think it’s the best trek since The Next Generation. Great cast, great production, and occasionally pretty good writing.
I also watched Picard season 1. I heard it was terrible, but I actually liked most of it. The cast is very good, the production is top notch, and there are some pretty good dialog. The problem is that the show, like most new trek, undermines the earlier idea of a semi-utopian future for humans and their allies. Also the series finale has a lot of tropes and deus ex machina stuff that I found pretty dumb. I will watch season two though, even though I heard it’s actually a bit worse. Sometimes it’s fun to hate-watch a show, especially when there are YouTube channels like redlettermedia that make fun of it in a humorous way.
Just finished watching the first part of Season 3 of The Witcher. It simultaneously feels to big and to cheap at the same time. It feels wrong watching it knowing Cavil is gone after the season. But I'm so in love with the books I'll take anything I can get.
Also watched the first 3 episodes of Warrior and contrary to The Witcher, that feels so good to watch. I think it helps that its sort of an original property but regardless, so much fun and highly recommend it to anyone who likes action tv/movies.
I'm enjoying Hijack on Apple. Idris Elba is obviously great in it.
People do dumb stuff, but that's okay because it's enjoyable. So far the only What the Fuck? moment was...

...the child going missing.Rewatching Venture Bros. Just watched season 3 today. Getting ready for the final movie later this month. I'm not one for rewatching shows much, but I love this show. The humor still hits for me. It'll be nice to get a proper end to the series, even if it's not in the exact way I want it
Anybody else watching Secret Invasion?
As with most things MCU, it's probably not gonna win awards or anything, but I'm really enjoying many of the characters (especially Emilia Clarke and Ben Mendehlson), and the general vibe of the show as a cold war spy thriller has really been nailed I think!
Thanks to our Disney subscription, couple of times a week, we have been adding an episode of the Muppet Show to our darker, more serious watching menu. It's great 70's nostalgia and fun to see the stars much younger. Last night I learned that Twiggy had a beautiful voice and a great sense of humor.
Just binged season two of The Bear. One of the most well written shows in recent television history. You have to be ready for an angst filled ride, but it sure does deliver on emotional arcs for multiple characters as it progresses.
