I don’t think anyone knows yet. There were apparently some internal debate around AI safety, but to me that doesn’t point to enough of a reason to kick him. To me it’s either he messed up with the product or finances. Considering the CFO and CTO remain would imply not financial, so maybe he leaked data/model/weights or something to Microsoft or a competitor.

I watched Oppenheimer last Friday on opening night and I didn’t love it. It was enjoyable and certainly technically a great movie, but I just felt something was missing. Weirdly I didn’t feel like there was any real momentum or anything at stake. I think the back and forth between timelines meant that the important one (when they’re developing the bomb) didn’t feel as impactful. To me it just felt like they were going through the motions of getting the team together and building the bomb and testing it.

I know it’s getting amazing reviews so perhaps I need to give it another watch at home.

Plex amp is a fantastic app that really does everything you’d want in an app like it. I used to use it for a while but I just can’t get past how much easier it is to use Apple Music / Spotify. I had a fairly big music library, but the effort to curate it all is just too much considering for £10 a month you have streaming.

I think the 4 bay synology is up to ds923+ as it’s been update. And costa roughly the same.

I started my home media server maybe 10 years ago as a raspberry pi and xbmc (now kodi) as I loved tinkering. The synology dsm software along with docker just makes everything waaay easier and robust.

To me this is about the masks we portray to protect what’s underneath. At the core (no a mask) this person has had a sad childhood - either by being ignored and being lonely or from being punished repeatedly (probably the former). The first face is sadness, this is what the person truly feels. To hide that true sadness they wear an emotional mask of anger - deflecting anyone from seeing what’s underneath. Above that mask is how they portray themselves to the world (not an emotion) a fairly cool self assured person, but if they’re confronted they will quickly resort to anger.

To me it’s not a particular subtle image (or maybe im being a bit literal). Behind each cool
Guy there’s anger and behind that sadness and behind that a sad childhood.

The question is always what else are you doing with that money. If the alternative is that 10k sitting in cash earning no interest then of course. The fixed term rates are always slightly higher. If you need to use that money (or think you might) then I wouldn’t put it in a fixed term savings rate.

But hey it’s free money that might go some way to offsetting the value of it in real terms.

A reasonable way of using this is If 5.3% is higher than your mortgage rate then any overpayments you might make would be better off in that savings account than paying down the mortgage.

There are other ways to get better returns (investing/ S&s isas etc) but have similar terms, fees and have more risk associated with the returns.

Work will pay for the desk so it feels like a no brainer. But perhaps a herman miller chair and actually getting myself out on walks during the work day would probably be better.

I work from home 5 days a week and have done for years with the same chair (it’s nothing fancy). After a couple of hectic days at work this week I’ve found my back hurting. I’ve never had this issue before as I usually take pretty regular breaks.

I’ve been toying with the idea of a sit stand desk so when I’m busy I can still take a break from sitting.

Does anyone else have experience and insight into the pros and cons?

    Thanks

I like tildes as the content is good at a cost of frequency. What I miss most about Reddit is it being a one stop place for my news and information.

So the counter to your experience is that if I were an event organiser (to be consumed in future by the pandemic or not) and I’d planned out the session, then someone suggest we just don’t bother and we carry on chatting I’d object. Perhaps a middle ground would be to say yeh let’s resume the free form chat later.

To go even further I think walking out of that event because the organiser refused to comply is slightly immature. Of the 25, 22 stayed and I guess saw value in staying. I’d say there are far more opportunities at events to have free form chats (and I agree in their value), but it’s a balance right?
The structure (even if it’s terribly dry) puts people on a more even footing, people who may be less extroverted can at least tell the group their name and company without having to rely on being able to edge into a group chat. It breaks the ice and allows a greater understanding of everyone there rather than just the most social.

But then again it was a working lunch so I’m probably being too harsh!
