Every few years I wake up in cold sweat wondering if the Nickelodeon time capsule is safe. Only 6,709 days to go.

I hadn't thought about the Nickelodeon studios in decades, what a fascinating history. The American Dream episode was also really good.

E.g. Since you enjoyed this video, you will probably like Defunctland and Hats Off Entertainment too, since they also have a bunch of great documentaries on defunct/abandoned/forgotten bits of pop-culture history.

Subscribing right now, awesome recs. Since you offered, I really enjoy the long form documentary/informational videos from Lemmino and have been craving more as I've watched most of their stuff....

Damn, that's actually a tough one since LEMMiNO is truly in a class of their own.

But a channel with similarly interesting content (minus the mystery focus), and with a similar style, who you might also enjoy is Horses, E.g. The Psychedelic Drug That Conquered Europe, How to Perform an Exorcism, etc.

neo also has similarly interesting stuff, and a similar style as well, E.g. The Densest City on Earth

And as for mysteries... I don't know any channels that also focus on them exclusively, and produce as consistently high quality stuff as LEMMiNO. However, Johnny Harris occasionally does deep dives into various mysteries, E.g. Whatโ€™s Really Happening in the Bermuda Triangle (which actually includes a bit of meta-commentary on mystery/conspiracy theory docs ;)

Ditto for Calum, E.g. Baychimo: The Unsinkable Arctic Ghost Ship

          hbomberguy too, E.g. ROBLOX_OOF.mp3

As well as Christophe Haubursin of Vox, E.g. What's inside this crater in Madagascar? and Who made these circles in the Sahara?

And Great Big Story (which recently relaunched under new ownership) has also covered the same story as LEMMiNO, but in more depth: Cracking the Code of Cicada 3301 [Playlist]

p.s. Another one-off mystery video that you also might enjoy: Power Pak's MyHouse.WAD - Inside Doom's Most Terrifying Mod

I don't deserve the work you went through to curate this selection for me, thank you so much. These all sound incredible. My holiday break can't come soon enough!

I subbed to these as well. Are you familiar with NoClip video game documentaries? Anything with a similar quality you recommend if so?

And for similar channels, I would highly recommend People Make Games, Rewind Arcade (formerly ChrisB Crisps), and Summoning Salt (if you're into speedrunning). Jacob Geller, hbomberguy, and Ahoy also occasionally do long-form gaming documentaries and video essays too, although Ahoy sadly doesn't post much these days.

Cloth Map was also very similar to NoClip (and even interviewed NoClip's Danny O'Dwyer), but sadly they don't make videos at all anymore. :( But all their gaming documentary videos are still worth watching, if you haven't seen them yet. E.g. Cuba's Underground Gaming Network, Mongolia's Video Game Grit, Brazil's Video Game Gray Markets, Made in Brazil: A Game Development Snapshot, Finding Workarounds: Bosnian Video Games & Development, and Croteam: Croatia's Game Dev Pioneers.

And you can also check out the documentaries tag in ~games for more stuff too.

The video talks about how there was a big push for an east coast Hollywood in the 80s that ultimately resulted in Nickelodeon's presence in Florida. Is the modern popularity of Georgia for filming a result of that 80s push or a separate, second attempt at it? I know it mostly comes down to tax breaks, but like was Georgia part of the plan from the get-go, or was an effort made to reboot the idea somewhere less Floridian after Florida was a flop?

Well you've had Turner Broadcasting there for a long time, and also Tyler Perry's productions and other things. The state began offering big incentives for productions there in the early 2000's, and then offered even more around the time of the 2008 financial crisis. I don't know that it was a concentrated effort by the bigger production houses to make a move TO Georgia, but moreso that it grew a lot of its own production facilities and companies more organically, with the incentives then enticing others to come shoot there.
