It looks like such high production value, but I'm not entirely sure how they're gonna pull out a full season of monster movie horror. Does anyone have any big examples that aren't "monster of the week" type of shows?

The Terror (based on the Dan Simmons book of the same name) was an exceptional example, and could easily have been an Alien story with a couple of tweaks: a grounded - well, icebound - ship is being stalked by some terrifying predator in the darkness, plus several other "man vs nature" things going on.
Ultimately I think the secret here is to make the xenomorph a sort of "wild card" while the characters are dealing with other problems. Have it do something early on so at least the characters are aware of it, and that way when it does finally come out of an air duct and bite through a dude, it's not some sort of diaboli ex machina, so to speak. Make it "Chekov's alien" rather than The Main Problem.
A good example is actually the first season of Legion, written & directed by the same person. While it’s not a full on monster horror story, it gets really close.

Worse, most of the decent ones are just "fuck it, do the first one again". I wish they could find some more interesting ways to explore this universe and the xenomorphs themselves.
I'll watch it for Noah Hawley if not for any other. Legion was batshit crazy and amazing.

I'll have to take a look! that seems interesting. I'm really excited to see how they do it in Alien Earth for sure.
