According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Amazon execs were concerned that Gero’s take on the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise’s already dedicated fanbase.

Yeah, if Amazon doesn't like something with so much of the original people attached, then that basically kills the series for me while they own it. What's the other option? Make their version of...

At this point I've moved Stargate from "thing I'd like to see more of some day" to "fond memories that I can revisit". It's firmly nostalgia for me now.

Yeah I think I had already done that and then the announcement video back in November got me hyped. I was skeptical about it being Amazon but it had so many of the passionate originals I thought...

Amazon was literally the last company I wanted to buy the MGM stuff. I'm pretty sure they only bought it for James Bond, and don't care about most anything else they had.

From what I see, these revivals, reboots, and such are often launched using the fan excitement to sell the idea, then immediately abandoning them for the greater public.
Such bullshit. Yeah let's not do a faithful continuation with a bunch of passionate people who were involved with the original run because we can't alienate the audience by making it broad appeal...

Fuck off Amazon. This is why people hate reboots and rehashs. You can't have it both ways.
I wonder if we could convince Amazon to sell a portion of the MGM back catalogue to Apple? Or hell maybe the entire thing. I don’t think I’d care if James Bond had an iPhone while he was fighting...

Yeah, I agree and assume the same, so I was surprised when they announced it and not surprised that Amazon cancelled it.

Yup. Couldn't have said any of it better myself.
What a bummer :(
Apple TV needs to get it somehow. Apple TV is the only one out there doing ambitious shows right now.
