Like I got similar vibes to Deep Space Discounts which is half as long (per episode) and more enjoyable IMO.

It wasn't bad though. I doubt I seek it out again

The only reason I’m even considering following up is that Karen Han & Brian David Gilbert wrote a couple episodes, but it’s also on Paramount and considering it was sat on for years than released a few hours before it was supposed to be announced at Summer Game Fest, I’m starting to think that my support of the show would be negligible.

Ah yeah I was one who bought a DeeDee plushie, which was fun if unnecessary. And season 2 is coming this summer!

This had some of the worst millenial writing I've heard in a while, and I'm a millenial. Who is this show even for? Half of the dialogue is going to leave any 10 year old spacing out from the over-the-head commentary on capitalism. There are way better ways of including that kind of commentary, but also this isn't a Lethal Company show.

I don't see the rest of this show improving from here, but maybe (hopefully) I''m wrong?

This is also the new project of Owen Dennis, creator of Infinity Train, so maybe now that this aired he might be moving on to something new? (or something old that was dropped halfway through its expected run leaving a whole lot of stones unturned and some of the most solid theme work and world building that the streaming era had to offer, perhaps?)

Infinity Train was one of the launch shows for HBO Max (back when it was HBO Max) and was one of the casualties of the cuts to the service. There doesn't appear to be a store front that has the run of the show in its entirety, as Season 1 and 2 ran on Cartoon Network and so the rights are different.

The show itself is a bit of an anthology series that unveils details about itself as the seasons go. What we quickly learn is that there's a train, it has a lot of different cars (infinite?) and our protagonist Tulip showed up there after getting on at a mysterious boarding station. It's very much a kids show, but if you stick around it goes into some pretty complex themes and each season has continuance with characters we met in the previous seasons, so the setting builds on itself and invites all sorts of questions and existential goodness. (Which makes it very annoying that the Third and Fourth season is no longer available to stream or purchase.)

Owen Dennis was also a writer and storyboard artist on Regular Show and Close Enough, and composed the Synth Battle track on "Gary's Synthesizer," and bring those talents in with some atmospheric scoring and bleepy bloops. It's a good show if you can find it somewhere.

Edit: I am mistaken, Seasons 1, 3, and 4 are on YouTube, 1, 2 and 4 are on Prime Video, and 1 and 4 are on Fandango, because who needs consistency?

I'll pop in to note that Infinity Train is aimed at older kids than most kids' shows. The target audience is in the 12+ and teens range, which is a fairly neglected demographic as this article about its cancelation notes.

That older demographic means it can tackle a lot of heavy themes very directly (death and grief/loss is a big recurring theme throughout multiple seasons), and have a lot more nightmare fuel moments. It doesn't need to be subtle or try to soften blows for younger kids, which lets it explore its themes and characters with much more depth. Every character has serious internal turmoil they need to work through.

This becomes really clear with season 3 in my opinion, because that's when the tone gets really dark. Both in terms of content and themes, and that one death at the end which is particularly gruesome for a kids' show. I don't know if they always planned that death to be that dark, or if they got even more freedom since seasons 3 and 4 were exclusive to HBO Max. The first two seasons aired on Cartoon Network (which is where I watched them), which likely merited some restraint given younger kids could easily find it, but that wasn't a concern with season 3.

Overall: really good show. The anthology format means the show's cancelation doesn't leave the audience with a massive cliffhanger, as each season does tell a largely contained story focused on different characters' journeys on the train, but we still want the full planned eight seasons because it's really good. There are connecting threads throughout each season telling a greater story about the train, and we want to see what that full arc is!

That being said, I don’t think an episode could be good enough to get me to give Paramount money.
