What a nightmare. I clearly dont want anyone hurt, including poet-gooners, but for the sake of that writer's future exploits I hope this knocks the ego out of them.

Am I the only one who felt like the car section was completely fake? The back-seat-gamer in my brain noticed so many of the alternate-path moments had barely any heads up or proper level design to indicate the choice approaching. The way the car drove also felt like it sort of glided weird at times.

I love the concept of the driving scenes as they harken back to the GoldenEye/Nightfire days. I just felt, compared to the walking parts that felt more grounded (even if heavily scripted), that the driving was suuuuper faked.

Oh my lord, just being treated like a human being is a blessing. I've worked in 8 or 9 different jobs, and this is the first one where, top-to-bottom, everyone's working to keep it human and non-toxic. There's a lot of other stuff I could go on about, but the main thing is flexibility and humanity. Helps that the founder and original CEO is an incredibly wholesome guy to start things off.

I have quite a deep-seeded hatred for Johnson due to his toxic-manhandling of several projects. It's starting to get around just how badly he tried to inject himself into the DCU, but the guy overall has just been a controlling force on every group he touches.

I doubt that this is something he will ever grow out of, but i hope doing a role where he actually has to act, where he gets recognized for the effort put in, knocks some sense into him. He's been phoning it in for so long that maybe he'll get a taste of not playing flawless main character #4 and actually enjoy it. And with that, maybe not need to drive every project he touches into the ground because he wants to be a flawless stereotype. I sincerely would like to see him come to his senses.

I've been following them for a long time and am subscribed, but I didn't realize their new video was out until seeing someone else talk about it 🤷‍♂️ Fwiw, I fully recommend their channel and am still bitter they lost Content Creator of the Year at The Game Awards.

I do not find typical generative AI to be helpful either in my job or my hobbies. I could theoretically force the use of it, but as stated elsewhere in this thread, it would end up introducing more issues than solving them.

Putting the ethicals of AI model sourcing aside, something I have appreciated is companies creating models and functions that can run on your machine alone to help with trivial stuff. Davinci Resolve, for example, has added some awesome features to their editor, with a clear distinction between client-side processing vs. server-side processing (of which the server sided stuff clearly asks for your consent). Things like multi-take editing based off pre-written scripts and auto-green screening. It's the type of stuff AI should be used for, which is getting rid of the tedium to help creators do their thing.

Similar to the research on developer productivity from here, a lot of LLM users think they're taking shortcuts when in reality they're purposefully gimping themselves and then making up for lost time. While using an LLM for creative writing may save time (arguably at the cost of style/quality), technical writing is prone to a lot of the same issues as coding.

Wording needs to be precise and statistics/measurments cannot be allowed to hallucinate. If they are the expert in that field, all an LLM might do for them is throw landmines down with the corn that you'll need to go back and fix later. I get that they have a tone of spite towards LLMs that you're not a fan of, but using an LLM that hallucinates an error that isnt caught can actually make them look less highly upon. I myself love the concept of being able to LLM some stats around for quicker reports, but I similarly would just be shooting myself in the foot.

Nah, these started juuuuust before the AI stuff popped off. I unsubbed from /r/gaming when they suddenly started flooding the subreddit a while back and waited for these kinds of posts to die down before resubbing. This was definitely before the AI splurge. I think it's just stupid easy karma farming.

I wouldn't be surprised if it could be repurposed for LLM training or be posted by LLMs to bait user engagement. But that is definitely an off-branch from the original reason these cropped up.

Can Can Wonderland, to add some detail, has a wonderful collection of both new and old arcade games. A lot of the appeal is getting to play arcade games with pneumatic or kinetic mechanics, and they rotate out through a wider selection of games (usually fixing ones that arent out on the floor).

The entire place is a huge donut that circles a minigolf course made up of curated artists from the Twin Cities creating the absurd and wacky holes to play on.

The building CCW is in also holds my favorite Minnesota escape room Puzzleworks, which managed to survive the pandemic. There's also Blackstack brewing for just sitting and chilling with a pint. That entire building has a sort of 90's event space charm that few places have been able to maintain. If you ever visit Minnesota, it's a good tourist trap that gives you something to do!

Having started it in 2018 and left to sit dormant since then, my significant other and myself just beat Cuphead for the first time. Not like anyone hasn't already said it, but the animations in that game are phenomenal. I was also really glad to see that I enjoyed the bosses leading all the way up to the end (as infuriating as they are).

I also recently picked up Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition during the summer sale. Its first hour is mainly tutorial and exposition stuff, but not too painful. Imagine fallout shelter except you're on a boat that you sail to find more dwellers instead of them coming to you. This is yet another game with beautiful animations with very charming characters. I think I have some pent up anxiety or something as I typically wouldn't play a farming cozy game with light combat scenarios. But once you've got the boat navigation and spirit quests/interactions down, the game just kind of flows. Also has co-op where your friend/SO can play as an adorable cat along for the ride.

For anyone coming to the comments first looking for some kind of synopsis whiel out-and-about:

This youtuber takes the angles and starting velocities of double pendulums (a pendulum with a second pendulum hanging off the bottom) while they dangle around and he plots the data. The main visual contrast is shown between the double pendulums that retrace their paths vs. pendulums that don't. This is represented on a very large-scale plot that looks sort of fractal and trippy. They navigate around these data visualizations pointing out unique swinging patterns.

It's all accompanied by some fun synth-y audio tones that are also derived from the swinging patterns. It's a remarkably well done video and I highly recommend watching it when you can listen to it.

It's a weird one. I'd usually be on the 'slippery slope/1984' side of the conversation with this, but given the forced draining of California's water reserves earlier this year by the administration and idiots like the Skydance Exec flying their drone into fire fighting air vehicles...

I absolutely do not blame them for going full throttle against idiots shooting off fireworks. I don't like the transition into a surveillance state either, but this one is hard to argue.

I abandoned Rocket League a while back and have been looking for something to replace it. I have been thoroughly enjoying REMATCH. I never picked up SIFU (same developer) but liked their approach to kinetic gameplay, and their take on football feels awesome. It gives me the same feeling that EA Skate would back in the day, where after you played some with friends you'd get the urge to pick up the boards and go practice kickflips.

I also played my first actual games of Magic the Gathering over the weekend (commander). I had learned the very basics from my SO, and decided to dive into a couple full games with a borrowed deck. I can't say I had a great time because I get irrationally angry if I forget a step or rule and feel stressed out because of it, but I was glad to take a first step into with a good group that was great at explaining all the card functions.
