Please just try to provide fair warning of spoilers if you can.
I'm sure this has been brought up plenty of times here, but my wife and I are most of the way through the first season of Ted Lasso and it is such a delight.
I just absolutely love how charming and optimistic he is. As someone who loves some darker shows (like The Wire and Oz), it's a wonderful change of pace.
Right? And it doesn't feel like a false person he's putting on for the public. It just feels like that's genuinely who he is, an endlessly optimistic and hopeful person.
Anyone watching Shadow and Bone?
I was somewhat expecting another young adult fantasy series but so far it's been exceeding my expectations. The setting is interesting in a fantasized tsarist Russia and it has really high production values. I'm only a few episodes in but I will likely finish the season.
Oh, nice. I have it on my watchlist but the trailer definitely made it look like yet another in a long line of "young adult fantasy series", with all the eye-rolling melodrama, and facepalm-inducing cheesiness that usually entails, so I wasn't particularly excited to watch it. I will bump up its priority now thanks to your comment though. :)
Well, we watched a few more episodes of Last Tango In Halifax and are starting to regret it. It ends up just being a bunch of people gossiping about stuff that happened in the past, and getting upset about it. It's one of those shows where you just want to scream at every character, "How about just not doing that once and seeing how it goes? IT'S THE CAUSE OF EVERY PROBLEM YOU HAVE!"
So last night we decided to go back and watch Fawlty Towers. It's held up better than expected. It's not the funniest thing Cleese has ever done, but it's decent. The picture quality is terrible, though. I mean, I get that it was filmed in standard-def in the 70s, but wow, is it still bad, even considering that.
Pinging @joplin and @Omnicrola as a thank you for recommending Mythic Quest. I appreciate the two of you inviting me to be part of your... DINNER PARTY. 🤗
I absolutely loved the series. It started out as a standard workplace comedy with a nerdy bent but ended up hitting some genuinely unexpected high notes. E05, "A Dark Quiet Death", was an incredible special episode (that was completely out of left field given the tone and format of the rest of the season), while E10 "Quarantine" was a COVID episode executed absolutely perfectly. The E11 "Everlight" special even got me legitimately choked up.
I love the ground that the series covered (women in gaming, Nazis in gaming, unionization, crunch, monetization, etc.) and I'm very excited to start season 2 in two days.
Haha! Nice!
You and me, both! Glad you enjoyed it. I hope season 2 is as good as season 1.
I see what you did there 😏 🤣🤣🤣
Also can't wait for season 2!
Whooooops! I was genuinely trying to just make a cute reference to the show (I did the hands!) but, much like Poppy and her broadcast, did NOT adequately think through the implications of that!
It isn't for everybody, but The Girlfriend Experience is out for its third season and seems to be off to a good start. On the surface its all about escorts, but they tap into power dynamics and a bunch of other stuff like technology (this season.)
For fans of The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch started today. It has the same aesthetic as TCW, but looks waaaaay better.
