Considering how fantastic the first season was, it would've been absolutely idiotic not to.

Just finished E9, what a journey. Such rich characters, beautiful animation, intricate yet understandable story. Hope they win some awards for this

I finally had the chance to watch the show (which I binge watched non-stop today!), and totally agree. I knew it was going to be visually stunning, just from having seen the trailers. But I wasn't expecting them to knock it so far out of the park with every other aspect of the show too. The facial animation especially blew my mind, and combined with the voice acting really helped deliver some emotional gut punches throughout the show.

p.s. I'm glad I knew nothing of LoL lore going into this though, since I suspect a lot of the hardest hitting emotional moments in the show would have been undermined if I had.

Same! I had no idea what any of the backstory of any of the characters supposedly was. I can barely remember what some of the game character's names where. I started watching with the assumption that probably most of the main characters where playable ones from the game, but without any context it couldn't really affect how I perceived the story.

Based on how much I enjoyed not knowing, I'm actually less likely to go play the LoL game now, for risk of low-level spoilers. So maybe it's backfired on them a little in that respect!

It's good to know that you don't need knowledge or experience with the game itself to get into this show. I've never played LoL, and I've been hesitant to watch because I was worried it would rely on fan service or some kind of pre-existing interest in the franchise.

With this in mind, and given everyone seems to be raving about it, I'll definitely give it a watch when I have time.

Yeah there's absolutely no need to know any of the lore. Even knowing it doesn't really ruin any of the emotional punches because they're expanding the lore in the story so your more just know...

I wonder what the cost per episode is. I'm seeing speculation that it's around $10 million. There's this tweet by one of the Adult Swim people:

Just FYI, Arcane’s budget is WAY beyond a normal TV animation budget by many millions of dollars. It’s literally one of the most expensive animated series on. Don’t blame you for comparing the shows, but Arcane is not playing in the same financial ball park as the rest of us! 🤷‍♂️

I'm really looking forward to all the other stories they can tell in the Runeterra world. Also Arcane gave me a lot of confidence in their upcoming MMO.

So far I see unanimous praise for the first season and I feel like it's actually deserved.

Edit: Also they are building a lot of expertise in various fields. For example they hired Shauna Spenley who was Vice President of Marketing and Publicity at Netflix. They also hired Brian Wright (also from Netflix) as Chief Content Officer to work under her.

I wasn't familiar with their K/DA group, but I finally looked up what that was and there's this quote on the wiki:

According to Tantula, "We believe there’s a huge overlap between League of Legends, esports overall and the music industry", and as a result, they invested "in building [their] internal music team with both an artist focused creative studio full of composers, songwriters and producers, as well as people who can perform all the services that you would see at a standard music label, such as distribution, A&R and promo."
