FWIW, I gave up on Lower Decks a few episodes in and Strange New Worlds is very good.

I agree there are still many unknowns - but I side with the rapid failure - the reason a sphere is the best geometry for a submarine pressure hull is because all the inward pointing force vectors cancel each other out. A cylinder is pretty good but as soon as you get a slight amount of "out of round" the force vectors get out of balance and as you said a cascade failure happens. In other words the more it gets out of round, the weaker it is.

Has it been confirmed that the composite hull failed and not the front window? the reason I ask is because in one of the wreckage recovery pics, a lift strap goes thru the window hole in the titanium dome. Was the window removed to make recovery possible?

Have any pieces of the composite hull been recovered? If the hull failed by buckling, would there be some fairly large pieces? If the failure was with the window, would the composite hull fragment into many smaller pieces vs hull failure?

Seems like the side panels (fairings) were recovered largely intact.

The thing makes me wonder is that Stockton Rush graduated with an aerospace degree from Princeton - so smart guy and he should have know about the pros and cons of composites vs metals. Too bad he didn't appreciate the flip in design parameters of inward pressurized vs outward pressurized.

I've been meh on windoze for ~ 2 decades and finally switched to Linux Mint ~6 years ago.
Am HAPPY HAPPY! (blows my mind how bloated MS software is compared to Linux)

Apple UI isn't as intuitive as it was in the early days (yeah I am old)

I buy fairly nice refurb'd laptops and buy fairly cheap Android phones. (I play a couple of games on an ipod and ipad)

Well given the global water shortages, ground water pumping is going to increase. Also, do we know the point where the last straw breaks the back? Some systems degrade linearly, others do not.

So many times we've said 'oh the change is so small but the world is so so big...'

and I'd imagine that'd be something the authors would want to mention if there were clear links.

Well scientists tend to be very conservative with speculation. And are the links clear? Do we just do what we want before we fully understand the links and impacts? This is what we have done and woe is us...

What are the cascade effects of ground water depletion? Beyond soil subsidence? Siesmic impacts? Will it affect atmospheric patterns. They have more impact because while less dense than water and soil/rock, they are further away from the earth's core hence greater lever arm. Also higher velocity vs water flow. Will these in turn, increase tilt? Questions questions questions...where are the answers?

Humanity is pulling on so many threads of the ecosystem fabric and already destroyed many. This is another - death by a thousand cuts...
