"In an expansive study, Morell came to two key conclusions: The broad generalizations about the use of bitcoin in illicit finance are significantly overstated. Blockchain analysis is a highly effective crime fighting and intelligence gathering tool."

You may have heard of something called "dark patterns". Which are designs that are supposed to influence users to do things that they normally would not. These are typically viewed as unethical in the design community however Paul makes a good point that ethics is not a strong foundation to stand on when discussing with say - the marketing team. Paul gives 3 business-related reasons that dark patterns actively hurt your business and gives some suggestions on how to improve conversion rates without the need for using said dark patterns.

It's worth a watch whether you're a designer or interested in the world behind the site.

I also recommended Calibre. It definitely is not a looker but it works awesomely for managing my ebooks on my Kindle. My favorite feature is that it has the option to put your ebooks online so that it's easy to download on my Kindle.

It converts, stores, and shares eBooks and it does it well.

I see your point and I definitely see the value in updates and especially security updates but these are not new. The iPhone 5s still receives security updates source as of March of this year. And looking at the starting prices of each phones, they have only risen each year. source It’s interesting that security updates are being pointed to for the price increase when Apple has been good with security updates for a long time now.

Now for Apple’s competition like Samsung. It’s crazy they are charging $1000+ for their S devices and are only provided 2 years of software support. It’s like they saw apples pricing and wanted to jump on without understanding why Apple is able to charge like this. (Brand recognition, physical presence, renowned customer services, and yes, updates)

I do not have very much to contribute but I am finishing my last semester at university with a focus on UX Design. What you just described to me has convinced me to apply as I will be moving to Wisconsin. If what you are saying is true, if I’m able to work on untangling that mess, I would be able to help doctors with burn out, speed up processes, and provide patients with a better healthcare experience. That sounds like a goal I am very much down for.

Thank you so much for this write up!

I was one of the early adopters of Discord but recently after reading their privacy policy I've become somewhat distasteful of the platform. I went on a search for another VOIP program and eventually landed on Teamspeak. Sure, it does cost a monthly fee but the fee to not have all your chat logged and examined was worth it for a couple of friends of mine.

Despite what I just said, I see the benefits of Discord. Namely these benefits:

    1. UI is much nicer.
    2. Getting people into your server is much easier to explain. (Click on the link!)
    3. It's free.

Sometimes it sucks when a friend wants to join our VC and having to explain he has to download a new application and use this IP to join. For the average tilde reader it sounds like nothing but for a lay person the UI of TS is pretty daunting. And by daunting I mean, it looks like a Windows XP program. I'm not expecting anything soon but I would love it if a VOIP program had the same look/feel as slack/discord but charged a monthly fee and did not have any privacy concerns.

Whether that will ever come? 🙄

I'm surprised that there are people with such distaste towards vine. I never used the app but people I knew did. I see no harm in letting people make stupid videos to share with friends (followers). Sure, documentaries are not created with the format but not everything has to be that type of content. I disagree with it being a "who can be the edgiest". I've seen plenty of vines that are just family friendly type of humor. Even if that's not the case, are the <18 crowd not allowed to have their own type of humor?

I find it pretentious to look down on Vine because of your reasoning. I'm sure there were people who looked down on literally every topic you've ever liked as well. If there's no harm- what's the issue? Allow people to express themselves however they'd like even if you happen to find it annoying. After all, no one is forcing you to consume that type of content.

What is going on with Google's hardware department? The tablet's price is insane for what you get. And really? No headphone jack? This is a tablet. There HAS to be room for that. Here is the spec sheet of all the models: model sheet. Not only is the tablet pricey, the keyboard is $200 while the pen is $100. I just do not understand what they are going for.

If someone is looking for a powerful tablet that is very computer-like, why not go for the Surface GO instead? It has full fledged windows (you can swap out of Windows S), Intel Pentium Gold Processor, and a good selection of ports :

    1 x USB-C
    3.5 mm headphone jack
    1 x Surface Connect port
    Surface Type Cover port4
    microSDXC card reader

If you want a tablet more focused on productivity. They could just get an iPad. Great tablet with iOS and it's app store. I just do not see where this tablet belongs.

I appreciate it! The way I did it was by slicing up the image into shapes but I'd grab a color from the original image and make that the entire shapes color. This made the lighting look realistic(?) by having the change of light reflect the actual photo of lighting.

The match was my favorite part of the piece. Glad you liked it! If you're interested I made the piece in 1080P without the signature if you wanted to use it as a wallpaper
