I'm still playing FFVII Rebirth and it's finally really clicked for me at around the Gongaga/Cosmo Canyon point. I made a post last time about how much of a mess the first 15 hours of the game are, and im glad that didn't turn me away completely because tinkering with materia and builds for the party is really engaging. I just wish combat was overall a little more challenging because even on Dynamic it feels like I'm rolling everything. Occasionally a boss will come along that makes me have to stop and think tho, which is always nice. All the open world and side content is still totally uninteresting, but I find myself doing a lot of it because that's the best time to mess with party combinations and work on weapon skill masteries.
Having a lot of fun with it overall tho.

I did think the volume decreasing gag they did for Mai was clever. I work on dialogue for video games tho and it hurts every time I have to stop everything to pull Chadley out for some useless info. I'm at the point where if I do a world intel objective and I don't end up pulling him out at the end, I'm like physically cheering lol.
Pretty much all of Chadley's reactions to your scans could have been ambient and the experience would be 1000x better. And whenever I start one of the region bosses or a fiend intel fight, Mai will of course start talking and then I'll tune her out, but then halfway through the fight she'll still be yapping and I'm just shocked like has she been talking this whole time?! I don't think I've retained a single bit of info she's given during a fight, it's just not a well designed experience lol.

I've been playing FFVII Rebirth and I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I feel like it has one of the worst openings to a game in recent memory. It's just information overload with all of the systems, mini games, and mechanics. I think the game really clicked for me when I got to Junon, but man if you're doing open world content, pretty much the first 15 hours of the game is just the Nibelheim flashback and then running around the Grasslands pulling Chadley out of your ass every 5 minutes lmao. The open world content is... tolerable. It's not bad, but it's not super fun or memorable. What is fun and memorable are the main story beats like the parade in Junon.
I never played the original, so maybe the Nibelheim flashback didn't land as well with me, it just felt confusing trying to figure out the combat with a character who you'll never play again for the rest of the game.

Same kinda thing happened with Valheim so I think I just can't play survival games with them because a lot of the time I don't mind the grind.

I mean, I hope I don't come across as insensitive, but why are you forcing yourself to play the game with a completionist mindset if you don't enjoy side content? It sounds like you're just forcing yourself to so something that you actively dislike. When I played XVI, I did like 2 or 3 sidequests early on and quickly realized that they wouldn't really get any more ambitious, so I stopped. I would imagine VIIR side quests are no different.
Why not just play critical path and only dip into side content when you're really interested?

I mean I think it's pretty clear. We're talking about software that can emulate the Switch vs the Gamecube and Wii. One of those you can buy off the shelves of a store today, and no doubt the Switch's successor will have a similar enough architecture to the Switch. These emulators will probably be modified to run whatever Nintendo releases next, and by then they might even be at parity with the proprietary hardware in terms of performance. I can already play Legends Arceus on my Steam Deck at parity with actual Switch hardware.
Yuzu/Ryujinx eat into Nitendo's bottom line way more than Dolphin.

What is the reason I wonder? Word of mouth? Tiktok? Twitch? I was shocked because as I was playing over the weekend the servers were slammed and I noticed ~300-400k people online via Steam Community Hub. Then Tuesday comes around and I'm thinking that it must have cooled off a bit so I can probably play a bit more. Nope, Tuesday evening at like 8pst 450k in Community Hub. Felt bizarre to me because even that is pushing like 11pm est so you'd think between it being a weeknight and late at night you'd start seeing numbers fall off.

Of course it's an incredible game and deserves the success, I just thought it was wild how the game had more players on a Tuesday vs a Saturday.

Yea this is one point where I wish they didn't stay so loyal to the original. I didn't play any original incarnation of P3, but I did play P4 so I can surmise what the og Tartarus experience was probably like. Unfortunately, due to the story of P3, I think it would have been hard to make the levels of Tartarus have that personal touch that the P5 palaces or even the P4 dungeons had.
That was one of the main things I bumped on when initially starting P3R. They really don't ease you into the setting at all lol. You're a transfer student and on like day one you've got your squadmates telling you, "yea, we fight Shadows with our Personas in Tartatus during the Dark Hour, welcome to the team."

It's such a beautiful show, the storytelling, art, and animation honestly feel like a Ghibli production at times. The soundtrack is also amazing, the whole package just feels like a really cozy and relaxing watch so far.

I'll have to check out the manga afterward ad I've hear the art in that is super good as well.

Been playing FFXVI and oh man, it's good. The combat is so awesome, I only wish there was an option to make the game a little harder. Minor enemies pose pretty much no threat as you just stunlock and steam roll them in a couple hits, but major enemies are so fun to fight. Every time I beat a major enemy or boss I just audibly say, "well that was fuckin cool"
The story and themes are similar to FFIV as well, which is my personal favorite FF game, so it kind of feels like playing a modernized version of that. If I could play a FF action game like XVI where you can reclass to a dragoon, it would be ideal for me.
I got it on sale for like $35 too, and it only came out in what June last year? It's a shame it released in a year filled with absolute bangers, I feel like it didn't get the spotlight it deserved.

I tried playing Dragon's Dogma and just kinda bounced off it. There are a lot of interesting ideas and the game is fun at first, but the package as a whole feels underdeveloped. However, I do think that with some modernization, Dragon's Dogma 2 has the potential to be really good, modern Capcom has not disappointed in the last 5 years.

I noticed that too, but I'm having the opposite reaction. I've enjoyed it so far and will probably keep playing it,but I picked it up to play couch coop with my brother, and I can't even seem to beat it on Drizzle by myself, let alone with him splitting items. We've gotten close but like... this is Drizzle we're talking about, I would have expected us to have beaten a loop by now.

I've seen some rumblings about the TTK and I personally don't see it. Not everything needs to be a one shot kill twitch shooter. Whenever an enemy got away from me with a bit of health, there was never a feeling of dissatisfaction with the gunfights, it was always more a sense of excitement and wanting to chase them down, calling out to my teammates where they were running to, how weak they were, where their buddies were, etc. TTK is perfect where it is because it shifts the focus away from the pure gunfights and more towards the tactics of using your gear, abilities, and movement to get the jump on someone.
We were in a match on Monaco trying to secure a big box of cash when a wall next to us gives out, little dude comes running in, swipes the cash, then breaks through a window and grapples away. We were flabbergasted in the best way, not a single feeling of disappointment or frustration, just pure awe of the textbook action movie sequence that this player just pulled off.
This game is unique, I really don't want it to become homogenized with all of the other low TTK shooters nowadays.
