Is this a serious post? Are you familiar with the context of the Luddites? The people who owned the machines no longer had to pay the workers for that labor and kept that money for themselves? This is the general truth of all technological advancement so far in Western history. Ways to prevent or reverse that has historically been labor unions/action.

Sure, it's just frustrating that they continue to ignore the actual obvious problem and imply that edge improvements are going to fix things.

lol okay. I'm sure it really is great that the teachers get autonomy, but the "secret sauce" is that the parents have to apply, which means being involved and wanting their kids to learn. If my students had that level of care in my regular old public middle school our scores would be good too!

Which was completely avoidable. There's no technical reason that money had to be vacuumed up by the wealthy, it was and is a policy choice.

The Dawn of Everything by David Graeber and David Wengrow. One of those books that gives you an 'aha' moment every dozen pages. Really changed my view of ancient history.

I'm extremely excited to get a PSVR2 once it's confirmed that they've made them compatible with PCs. I've been waiting for my moment to go ahead and get one (I also don't wish to buy any facebook product), and it will be exactly the value I want once that's happened. Cannot wait to fly an X-Wing in VR.

It's hard to take seriously a video that doesn't address a large driver of a lot of these problems in capitalism. Freedom and post-modernism hasn't killed community. There's more opportunity now for community than ever, and (thankfully) not just the dominant one your culture happens to have. The Internet connects people in a way never possible in human history. But we've created a system that's focused on profit instead of things people actual need. People have to work too much, the information we're able to access, the tools we use to live our lives, the jobs available, the education we receive, the things we can buy, the places we can live, every bit of it is tailored to increase the profits of corporations. It's hardly a wonder that people are unhappy and that it's ironically harder than ever to form communities: communities are dangerous to corporations.

I'm not sure how having fascists, who are by definition not interested in accuracy or truth, making the news helps to rehabilitate anyone or improve any situation except the fascist's.

The fact that it's difficult but important to decide what's important and how it's presented is why it's so important to have a lot of eyes on things. Different perspectives are critical.

As a teacher that generally enjoys my job, I would only ever recommend a young person get into the career with a lot of caveats. I enjoy working with kids, I like my content area, and my admin has been alright. Even with that very rare combination, the job itself sucks: the amount of paperwork, the lack of respect, the poor pay, and the understanding that the people running my state are working to actively make my job worse makes this a very difficult field to recommend.

I've made my peace with the death of BioWare. Dragon Age remains my favorite fantasy setting, and I replay all three games with some frequency. But nearly all of the writers that wrote the world and stories and characters I love have moved on or been fired. I'm not convinced that DA4 will ever come out, and while I'll happily play it if and when it does, I still fully expect EA to just closeoy BioWare down sometime afterward.

There are a great new studios make great new worlds, and I'll always be able to enjoy the Dragon Ages that already exist, but it is such a bummer that BioWare and EA couldn't manage to keep a good thing going.
