The amount of money and resources they're burning through (losing billions of dollars even on the highest-paying tier of paying users) makes me extremely skeptical of that. This is a company that has never ever made money selling a technology that has never ever made money, in an order of magnitude that is astonishing.

I have no interest in the 'information' created by LLMs.In the case that we're worried about quality, I don't care if it's really good - it doesn't mean anything because no one put any meaning in it.
In the case where we're not worried about quality, then it wouldn't be very hard for a human to simply make whatever it is.

Even if the LLM ship has 'sailed,' the thing about ships is that someone steers them. The only reason we would continue to use LLMs is if we all choose to do that. We might well do that, but that is a choice we will or won't make, not some sort of technological inevitability.
It would be significantly easier to make a system where kids can't cheat than it would to incorporate the lying machine into education.
If you agree with the point that LLMs are not designed to be correct or to provide accurate information, I can't fathom how you would imagine that it would have any place in education, which is about providing accurate information to people.

Putting yourself intentionally in the "center" of an issue isn't reasonable, it just makes you vulnerable to bad actors who like to drag the 'center' wherever they please. Big corporation have a singular purpose: to make money. If they 'solve problems' it is entirely incidental to whatever they're trying to do.

I completely understand an individual parent putting their kid in a better school - I would do it myself if I needed to, and I'm a public school teacher. But it's infuriating that conservatives have so successfully executed their destruction of the public space.

When students come into my classroom and do not care an ounce, there's nothing I or the school can do about it. If a kid does not want to learn and the people at home don't make them, that's the whole ball game. I get that schools are the last remaining public service in America, but we can't force anybody to learn anything.

Missed it by a couple of years, sadly. If there was ever an MMO I was going to enjoy, it was Galaxies. Living life and going on adventures in Star Wars? All the stories I've heard from folks who played it in its heyday make me regret not having an internet computer at the time.
As a life-long Star Wars fan, it's the greatest TV show ever made. Right up there with the first season of Westworld.
Every actor is 10/10, the writing is phenomenal, and the world building is just a joy to see. I don't think we'll ever get anything approaching this quality in Disney's Star Wars again, and I'm just thrilled it happened at all.
(Exception: Alexander Freed's Star Wars books! If you like Andor and want more of that kind of Star Wars, Alphabet Squad and Mask of Fear are both really good and scratch a similar itch!)
