The things you mentioned are boons to me - I love to be able to borrow from the library straight from the device. But you'd be basically paying a little more to move away from Amazon. That was my primary motivation for the move over to Kobo, and I've been glad to have an equally pleasant experience outside of the Amazon ecosystem. But Kobo doesn't subsidize their hardware with their giant online retail monopoly, so the Kobo itself does cost more.

Comment on Legalizing sports gambling was a huge mistake – The evidence is convincing: The betting industry is ruining lives in ~sports

By all means take the people causing the issue to task and have them contribute to that welfare, but it's not accurate or helpful to try and turn the situation into a competition between "recipients" and "contributors" to welfare, when the truth is that we're all contributing and receiving in a variety of ways. If you want to find a villain, look at the people profiting off of all this.

And yet one of the qualifications I have for vote for someone is that they are not actively doing a genocide. With that in mind, I might say that both options are equally unpalatable in the sense that I can't vote for either of them. There are clearer ways to say it, but maybe that's what they meant.

We go out of our way to makes sure that the students and parents don't have any responsibility for the success or behavior of the student, and admin are beholden to the numbers.
Public education is one of the last surviving public institutions, and as such it has become the lever that gets pulled in every single situation. But schools cannot fix societal/structural problems, and pretending that they can is, generously, burying your head in the sand.

Caring for an infant is not something that comes naturally to me. Making it to the toddler phase was a struggle! Every stage that she's grown into has been easier than the last for me, personally. We had our second accidentally (and put a permanent stop to that risk soon after lol), but the second time around I knew what to expect and was pretty good at parenting, so the second has been much more manageable for us than the first time. I love my kids more than anything in the world and wouldn't change anything, but having kids was much harder than I thought it would be before I had them.

Our second obviously comes up with challenges of her own (the tantrums are going to be something else, I can already tell), but as someone who doesn't operate well when missing sleep, my mental health has been much better the second time around.

The people who owned the machines no longer had to pay the workers for that labor and kept that money for themselves? This is the general truth of all technological advancement so far in Western history. Ways to prevent or reverse that has historically been labor unions/action.

The hysteria that white guys have when they have to start living in the same world as everyone else blows my mind. I completely agree that a lack of a left-wing party is leaving these people, who have extremely real problems that they're legitimately mad about, few places that they feel addresses they're problem, but I'm a white guy that's lived in Texas my whole life and have never once been called racist, sexist, or a rapist.
