I feel like I've said and read this a lot but: The speed of our descent is breath-taking.

In 2016-2020 there was the common refrain of "It's a good thing Trump doesn't know how to hire anyone competent in his administration or else we'd be in serious trouble" but now the evil competence is on full display. The thoughtful planning, funding and execution of P2025 would be admirable if it weren't so evil and destructive to our country and the people in it.

It's hard to know what to do, how to prepare, how to live our lives as we fall ever deeper into whatever term you want to use: Facism, dystopia, collapse...there are so many more. I am curious when the breaking point will be for most people and when we will see protests in the hundreds of thousands or millions, and then what the inevitable response/crackdown is to the unrest.

It doesn't feel like it is functioning because it truly is not. There is some carry-over from past years and the ways "things have always been done" are somewhat still in effect but those will all be eroded away too.

What bothers me most is that the majority of the negative effects from the past 90 days have yet to be felt by most Americans, and once they are it will be much harder to undo the changes. Action is needed now by the populace (much moreso than we have seen so far) but we all have lives and bills and families and personal problems to deal with too so I fear the horror show we are watching will get worse and worse.

Taxes for me as well, especially because last year I finally decided to change my withholding so I could use the money during the year to invest/keep in emergency fund instead of giving an interest-free loan to the IRS in order to get a refund.

It was a good move, but now it's time to settle up. Maybe one more cup of coffee and then I'll get started...

Vacillating somewhere between average and poorly, but more as a reaction to what I'm seeing rather than my own regular mental health issues.

The speed at which things have changed in the US in the past two weeks has been staggering. I feel deeply that it will take quite some time for the majority of Americans to feel the consequences of the changes made (and those have yet to be made), but once enough of us have it will be too late to do very much about it because so much will already be decided/entrenched.

Combined with the ever-increasing speed of collapse of our natural environment, there is far more anxiety than optimism to be found right now and for good reason. There are dark times ahead, and some would say we're already deep within them.

I was planning to go with a PS5, but should I consider a Switch 2 instead? I haven't played any Nintendo games since the original NES as a kid, and generally like RPG-type of games (be they ARPGs, CRPGs or just about any other kind) so I figured PS5 is the way to go but hoping someone here has a bit of advice on the Switch 2.

I've longed for some way to reduce sound in the evening/night but not make it so I'm totally cut-off from necessary sounds, and something I can side-sleep with in.

I'm surprised to read so many comments in this thread that actually enjoy the theme song. I felt it was the worst then, I feel it's the worst now and I simply don't understand how it could grow on anyone. The music is fine but the lyrics are so over-the-top cringey that I would mute the theme every time it came on. It's interesting how different ears and brains can hear the same thing and have very different reactions.

I been thinking about your comment for a little while and it caused me to have a realization: I'm doing the same thing I was doing before the 2016 and 2020 elections which is constantly scrolling, reading and ingesting every bit of news, rumor or theory so I can figure out where the truth lies. And by doing so it is causing me to have much more erractic thoughts, anxiety, depression and feelings of being overwhelmed, just as it did before the other elections.

And you know what? I'm no closer to any truth than I was before, and end up just spinning my internal wheels. Time to get off the ride for a bit and try to focus on something else, thanks for your post.

Reading these articles over the last few days it really feels like he'd already decided to step down and they are just laying the groundwork to the announcement that Kamala is the new nominee.

But even if no one is announced to be the new nominee right away I don't think it will be long now until he makes a speech that he's no longer running.

Edit: I was right (about him stepping down at least), but I still need to disconnect from politics for my own mental health.
