I haven't personally used the GAN 12, my last GAN was a 356 XS, then I moved on to the X-Man Tornado, and now the X-Man Tornado V2.
I might get another GAN some day, but the reason I went for the Tornado was that it's the quietest cube I have ever seen, and I value how quiet it is more than if it's a little bit smoother or whatever.

I’m really enjoying it, it’s not really a horror book, but there’s an unsettling feeling to it that’s incredibly hard to explain.
It’s a daunting read, being a (physically) large book with 700+ pages filled with strange formatting and other oddities.

I’m just a casual, I started it as a way to keep my hands busy to prevent a bad skin picking habit. I’ve never gone to competitions or anything.
I’ve never built my own cubes, but I do have a 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, 6x6, and 7x7 and can solve all of them! As far as non-cubes go, I like the Megaminx (a 12-sided puzzle) and the Skewb.
I’d love to get one of the larger “minx” puzzles someday but they’re pretty expensive and significantly more time consuming to solve. It already takes me 20+ minutes to solve the Megaminx so I can’t imagine how long a Gigaminx or Petaminx would take.

I also found out with someone else's help that I was using a single instance of Random for everything, which is not thread safe. So, adding individual Random instances per chunk and fixing the aforementioned parallel issue fixed my race conditions! The performance gain wasn't as massive as I was hoping, but it's still there, and I'm sure it can be increased further once I'm ready to put more time into it.

The chunks are processed in an order such that no two adjacent chunks are processed at the same time. Yet, I'm running into race conditions between two chunks that are unable to interact with each other.
From what I've been reading, it should be possible for two separate threads to read and write to the same 2D array at the same time, as long as they aren't reading/writing the same part, which in this case they never are.
Any ideas? Debugging race conditions is proving to be extremely difficult.

I joined Reddit 12 years ago, when I was in high school. It was recommended to me by a friend, so before Reddit, I had no alternative. I was never on Digg, so I’m not sure what it was like compared to what it is now.
Edit: After reading more of the thread, I’ve realized I had some other places I frequented before Reddit. I would browse 4chan a bit, mostly just /r9k/ (which is probably horrible for your mental health, honestly), I also used to lurk the Newgrounds forums, and then I had FunnyJunk for memes.
If anyone else here came from FunnyJunk, I’d be amazed.

I had a really hard time grasping some of the concepts in Rust, but what actually helped it click for me was Rust By Example -- Sounds like a "duh" moment, since it's probably the most recommended source for new Rust programmers, but having detailed explanations as well as code blocks that could be run in-browser helped me out a lot. I especially liked that I could tweak the code on the page and run it again to actually see what changed.

I've seen so many guides, infographics, how-tos, about how to get started on Lemmy. The problem is, if you need to view a tutorial before signing up for an account, it's already doomed. 90% of people who see that will give up and go back to what already works for them.

- I'd really like to be able to change the colors scheme. I'm personally not a fan of "true" dark mode themes (black rather than dark gray or something), I never have been. Plus, I'm addicted to Dracula.
- I noticed that posts that use HTML for formatting are exposing the tags rather than being formatted properly. It seems like Markdown is working normally, just not HTML.
Keep up the great work!

I kind of doubt it would, because it deliberately doesn't use the same platform as Mastodon/Lemmy, so as far as I know, it would only work with other Tildes instances.

Or is being able to host your own instance more of a "Yes, you can do this, but only if you have a specific reason to do so" kind of thing? Like if a small group of hobbyists wanted to host their own, for example.
Personally, I like having one instance, no fuss, no federation. That's honestly one of the biggest draws of Tildes to me over something like Lemmy.

Leftbones "OH GOD IT'S MOVING, WHY IS IT MOVING?! AAAAAAAA""OH GOD IT'S MOVING, WHY IS IT MOVING?! AAAAAAAA"
I tried Copilot using the free trial, and that was enough to convince me it was worth paying for. It saves me time by offering completions for when I'm writing something repetitive, or something I've written before. I haven't looked into it, but I get the feeling that it can reference code from my other repositories, because sometimes I'll be rewriting something, and it will offer up completions matching my old code.
I also like using it for answering basic questions, since it's kind of a pain sometimes to find what I'm looking for on search engines nowadays.
I don't really ever ask it to write code for me, because it writes code like an idiot. It will reference libraries that I am not using or don't even exist, call methods that I haven't defined, and sometimes just totally lose the plot on what I asked it to do in the first place.
What I do use it for apart from completions and questions, is ask it for code examples using the Copilot Chat. It's helpful to be able to ask "Can you show me an example of how to do X in Y language?" and then I can go from there, correcting a mistake it may have made, asking for an alternative to a library it used in the example, etc.
