When you give an agent the ability to self train you start getting in that direction. If the agent tries a task and gets feedback that it failed it could go back and train itself on the task. It's how humans work as well. We always off from AGI, but an AGI isn't going to be some monolithic model. It'll be a system of models that work together and evolve over time. Current tool calling allows a limited form of multi-model intelligence along side sensory input and the ability to affect external change. We are getting the precursor building blocks in place.

Isn't that a very narrow mindset though? You're basically saying, "you can't work on A until world peace is achieved". We shouldn't want to restrict scientific and engineering advancement simply because there are other problems that need to be solved. I agree that there are a lot of problems we need to solve here on Earth. I disagree with the idea that we shouldn't focus beyond Earth until those are all solved.

Honestly, tool calling for LLMs is incredibly powerful. MCP Servers are one aspect of that. If you haven't spent much time looking into tool calling, I would recommend you try it out. If you are simply using a desktop agent like Claude Desktop, just learning how to attach MCP Servers will be a game changer. And there are numerous resources out there for writing your own.

I know you probably know this but... giving the current time isn't a failure of the model. They just aren't feeding it the current time as part of the context. I know it's silly, but you could add an (MCP Server)[https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/servers/tree/main/src/time] to handle that.

It's an interesting point. I've been having a lot of online interactions lately where I inferred a tone from the specific words used and it's causing me to overanalyze things a bit. I'd say the use of the word "such" set a negative connotation to an otherwise neutral sentence. Word choice and it's connection to emotions is so strange and interesting.

Excellent article. I normally don't have to patience to read articles this long on topics I'm only tangentially interested in, but this one kept me reading. I even read through all the footnotes and followed up on some of the references. Overall, it's quality writing, regardless of the topic. The author is good and I think the fact that they are an editor on Wikipedia shows.

Batteries are just a tiny proportion of the car's weight

This statement felt incorrect so I checked the Tesla Model Y. It's got a curb weight of 1998kg and a battery weight of 771kg (according to Google). That's ~38%, which I would not classify as "tiny".

That being said, based on the rest of your statement I see you realize batteries are heavy and lowering that weight is a good target. I agree fully. But I happen to think lowering charge times drastically is a much more important target. Today, charging a BEV is an event unlike refilling an ICE. If we can get BEVs to recharge almost as fast as an ICE, it increases the ease of adoption in a broader segment. Range is quickly approaching the ICE average already. Even though most people don't need that range very often, they still insist on having it available. Obviously, this is just my personal opinion as an observer.

I set up accounts for my kids when they started playing computer games. We've been in a family setup for years at this point. The family sharing beta was great and I'm glad to see it come out of beta now. There was one point when a valve employee called out my underage kid having an account, but I explained that I controlled the account closely and managed all purchases myself and they were ok with what I was doing. YMMV

The mini duplex breakers are a single phase 120v breakers for two different circuits. You'd use them if you need the space. The way the breaker panel is designed, you're only getting a single phase per standard breaker slot. And the phase you get alternates, so any two adjacent breakers are on different phases. And any 240v circuit would have a double pole breaker. As another poster above said, you have to cut both phases of a 240v circuit at once, so using two single pole breakers for 240v would be bad mojo.
